Another bunch of players will attempt to qualify for the International Championship on Saturday when the second day of action in the preliminary stage of the event takes place up in Sheffield. This is a big tournament so a win is huge for all involved.
We saw on Friday how the best-of-11 format can allow matches to chop and change which is the beauty of this tournament and I’m sure we are going to get a lot more of that again over the course of the day on Saturday.
Morning Session
Five matches make up the morning session on Saturday with Ryan Day the biggest name in action. He will face his fellow Welshman, Jamie Clarke for a seat on the plane to China. That will be on one of the streamed tables with Lyu Haotian on the other when he meets Duane Jones. There is a good looking game on the outside tables as Liang Wenbo faces Craig Steadman while the other two matches sees Zhao Xintong taking on Andy Lee and Kurt Maflin meeting the home amateur Long Zehuang.
Afternoon Session
Stuart Bingham will be the main attraction in the second session of action on Saturday and we will get to see him go up against Tian Pengfei on the streamed offerings. The other streamed match in the session sees Jack Lisowski meeting Chen Feilong while elsewhere Yuan Sijun plays Gerard Greene and Daniel Wells takes on Alex Borg. There is one other match on the outside tables and that sees Ashley Carty facing the challenge of Martin O’Donnell.
Evening Session
The day finishes with four matches in the evening session. The first of those on the streamed tables sees the former world champion Graeme Dott facing Fan Zhengyi while Neil Robertson gets his campaign up and running on the other live table. He meets Oliver Lines. It is Welsh players everywhere we look elsewhere in this session. Two of them battle on one outside table when Michael White meets Jackson Page with Mike Dunn playing Jak Jones in the other game.
Betting
I’ll go with one over the course of the day and once again we have to wait until the evening session for it where Jackson Page can see off Michael White at odds against. There is a lot of talk about Page, led by Mark Williams who is a decent enough judge if you ask me and if he rated him who am I to argue. This is first season as a professional and he opened it with a 4-0 win in Riga Masters qualifying.
Michael White had exactly the opposite beginning to his campaign. He was beaten 4-0 by Adam Stefanow which doesn’t really look like the greatest form guide, especially with the European not exactly playing special snooker himself. It has been far too long since White offered what he can in the game and I suspect he is ripe to be found out by his fellow Welshman in this match.
