We have a double header of action in the Mzansi Super League on Sunday, as the tournament really fires to life after a relatively slow start. The four teams who were not in action on Saturday will battle it out for precious points to propel themselves up the standings.
The weather has been an issue over the course of the tournament which is a shame because the majority of the action we have seen has been of the highest order. We should be in for more of that on Sunday.
Durban Heat vs Cape Town Blitz
The opening match of the day sees a Durban Heat side who are yet to set foot on an outfield in this tournament going up against one of the early pacesetters in the Cape Town Blitz, although slowly but surely the form of their wins isn’t holding up to much.
I was going to write a great preview about how good this match is going to be and how I like both sides and fancy the Durban Heat etc etc but sadly we’re heading towards yet another washout so I’m not going to bother going deep into this. I’ll avoid wasting time and get straight onto the second match of the day.
Paarl Rocks vs Tshwane Spartans
The second match of the day comes from a much drier and sunnier Port Elizabeth where the Paarl Rocks and the Tshwane Spartans meet for the points which could propel them right into contention in the fledgling table.
These two teams have had four matches scheduled in the tournament to date but only one of them have been completed, as the Paarl Rocks took care of the Cape Town Blitz in pretty emphatic style. Tshwane have had a complete washout and seven or so overs against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants when the rain probably saved them as they were in a whole world of trouble.
I’m not changing my tune from anything I’ve said in the competition. I think the Paarl Rocks are the team to beat and I’m amazed that they are the outsiders to win here. If AB de Villiers doesn’t fire there isn’t a whole lot else in this Tshwane side to worry the Rocks and I believe Paarl have the attack to contain him if it is possible to do that. I’ll take the home side in this one.
