We are back to two sessions at the PDC World Championship on Tuesday with the first of them inside the Alexandra Palace in London looking like being quite an entertaining afternoon of first and second round action.
The shocks kept on coming on Monday evening when Raymond Barneveld was dumped out of the tournament and some solid names will be looking to avoid following him through the exit door over the course of Tuesday.
Robert Thornton vs Daniel Larsson
The first match of a busy day of action sees the Scottish star Robert Thornton taking on Daniel Larsson for a place in the second round where Kim Huybrechts will be waiting for whoever makes it through.
Given the form of the Belgian there is a real chance for one of these two to earn themselves a few quid in this tournament which might add to the pressure of the occasion. Larsson can play this game. He isn’t likely to blow anyone away but he’ll go through if he’s given the chance. Ultimately I think this match is all about Robert Thornton. If he plays well and is clinical his scoring power will see him through but he’s enough of a faded force to make me swerve this from a betting point of view.
Ricky Evans vs Rowby-John Rodriguez
Two youngsters do battle in the second match of the afternoon where the Rapid one that is Ricky Evans takes on the Austrian prodigy Rowby-John Rodriguez for a place in the second round against Cristo Reyes.
Evans goes into the match as the favourite and if this contest was played out to 2018 form then I would definitely go with that but Rodriguez can often turn it on, on the big stage and Evans’ speed does make him erratic at times. I still expect Evans to win but he’s far too short to lure me into a bet of any kind here.

Krzysztof Ratajski vs Seigo Asada
When the draw came out one of the first round matches I was looking forward to the most was the one between Krzysztof Ratajski and Seigo Asada. Both these men are extremely good players and whoever comes through it will give James Wade a good game in the second round.
Ratajski probably has the edge both on his PDC stage experience and also his form at a decent tour level over the last 2-3 months but Asada has won a lot of matches back in Asia and has played at Lakeside a number of times as well as this tournament. I think this could be a pearler of a match even if it doesn’t standout to everyone.
I fancy the Pole to edge his way through here but the 1/4 quotes about him winning are quite frankly laughable. I think his solidness will win the day but I definitely think the Japanese star will keep him honest. Ratajski to win but both to win a set looks very likely to land to me and is an attractive enough price to get involved in.
Darren Webster vs Vincent van der Voort
The second round contest in the afternoon session sees the twice quarter finalist Darren Webster taking on the man who almost got the fright of his life on Monday night in Vincent van der Voort with the Dutchman not expecting his first round opponent to play so well.
He would be wise to expect Webster to play well however. There isn’t a big stage the diminutive Norfolk thrower hasn’t played well on recently and at some point he is going to seriously threaten one of these major titles. Webster has it tricky here against a streaky Dutchman who can blow most away when he’s on it. I’d say the odds are probably right for what looks a close one to call so there’s no need to push anything in this one.
Tips
