2019 PDC World Darts Championship – Fourth Quarter Betting Preview

The final quarter to look at ahead of the beginning of the PDC World Championship is the bottom one where the world number three Peter Wright battles to launch his tilt at the title from. Not only is he the world number three but he is also the third favourite for the tournament so he is expected to come through here.

Often when there are a couple of competitive sections in a draw there is a more straightforward one somewhere along the line and if there is one then I think most judges would suggest it could well be this one.

Draw

(6) Gerwyn Price v Nathan Aspinall/Geert Nentjes

(27) Kyle Anderson v Jeffrey de Graaf/Noel Malicdem

(11) Ian White v Wayne Jones/Devon Petersen

(22) Steve West v Richard North/Robert Marijanovic

———————————————————————————-

(3) Peter Wright v Toni Alcinas/Craig Ross

(30) Benito van de Pas v Mickey Mansell/Jim Long

(14) Joe Cullen v Brendan Dolan/Yuanjun Liu

(19) Mervyn King v Jan Dekker/Lisa Ashton

Preview

When you think the third and fourth highest seeds in this quarter are Ian White, a man with a terrible record in televised events, and Joe Cullen who might lack what it takes when the going gets a little tough, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price should really be the ones playing out the quarter final of this section.

When a number of the seeds have question marks over them it can sometimes pay to look to the qualifiers for someone to take a chance on but in truth this looks the weakest lot of qualifiers of any quarter. We should notice Lisa Ashton’s appearance in this section and her attendance will attract plenty of attention but again it is going to take something bizarre for Wright and Price not to have it all their own way I suspect.

Betting

I’m on Gerwyn Price to win the tournament and given that I only see this quarter as a two horse race I’m near enough obliged to get involved in him to win the quarter if only because of his price to win it. I’ve scaled high and low and I just can’t make a case for anyone else to come through here.

Given that Price is 4/1 to win the quarter and he wouldn’t possibly be 4/1 to beat Wright in a worst case scenario quarter final I think the Welshman is enough for me to have a decent bet here. If he doesn’t end up playing Wright then happy days but over nine sets I don’t think he would be too disadvantaged against Wright. It is Price for me.
