There are four more nights in the regular season of the Premier League Darts campaign and the first of those comes from Liverpool on Thursday evening when the eight men left battle it out for two more vital points.
The top two positions in the table look secure, we just need to find out which order they are going to end in but there is a real good fight forming for the other two spots at the o2 and that fascinating battle will continue in Liverpool.
Mensur Suljovic vs Michael Smith
The action begins with Mensur Suljovic looking for the points that will keep him deep in the race for the top four at the end of the season. He takes on Michael Smith who pretty much needs to win every match between now and the end of the campaign to have any chance of returning to the o2.
Suljovic has been the better player of these two over the course of the season and if he can find three wins from his final four matches he will guarantee himself a spot in the semi-finals. He will be expected to do that here having thrashed Smith 7-2 in their reverse meeting but I sense Smith is going to be dangerous from here on in and so I wouldn’t want to get involved in Suljovic. It is only a gut feeling regarding Smith though and I’m not massively keen to act on that so I’ll sit this one out.
Rob Cross vs Gerwyn Price
Two of the top four do battle in the second match of the night as Rob Cross looks to regain top spot at the very least when he takes on Gerwyn Price who currently occupies fourth spot in the table and who needs to win himself to stay there.
These two men have been two of the players of the campaign thus far and while Cross has been the better of the two overall, he certainly shouldn’t be overlooking Gerwyn Price, who has kicked on admirably from the awful season he had last year. I’m expecting Cross to win here but I respect Price enough to leave this one alone given the prices.

Daryl Gurney vs Peter Wright
The third match of the night sees Daryl Gurney taking on Peter Wright in a match between two men who are playing catch up for their spots at the o2. Both men go into the night knowing they really need to win here and I expect a competitive game accordingly.
We should not ignore the likelihood of a poor performance from Peter Wright though because he looks to be in a real slump at the minute. He was taken apart by James Wade in the Premier League last week and then lost to Ross Smith in his opening match in the European Tour event at the weekend.
Gurney has been in decent form. He has had the odd sticky night in the Premier League but in the main his averages have been consistent and at least he is completely used to the equipment he has been using unlike Wright who was using something resembling a bad kids toy last week. I expect Gurney to have too much here.
James Wade vs Michael van Gerwen
The final match of the night sees James Wade looking to complete a pretty rare Premier League double over Michael van Gerwen who rarely loses once in this competition let alone twice to the same man.
Wade has been in excellent form this season and he sits third in the table heading into the night. A win here would put him in a wonderful position from which to qualify for the knockout stages of the event but MVG has shown signs of hitting some consistency himself so this is going to be tough for Wade. You’ve got to think MVG is a worthy favourite here but I respect Wade enough to leave this one alone.
