2019 Shanghai Masters Snooker – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

It is quarter final day at the Shanghai Masters on Thursday with all four matches being played over the one day and two sessions of play as we head towards the conclusion of what is becoming a very exciting tournament.

The field guaranteed a lot of close matches along the way and we’ve not been disappointed in that regard. You get the feeling we could be in for something special over the course of the four games on Thursday too.

Morning Session

Both matches in this session should be of the highest quality but one match jumps off the page at me I have to say. That is the one between the world champion Judd Trump and the former winner of The Masters in Mark Allen. They generally produce fireworks when they meet and I’m sure it will be no different here. The other match in the morning sees Neil Robertson taking on the man who lost out in the final here last year in Barry Hawkins for a place in another major semi-final.

Afternoon Session

The defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan will have the eyes of the Chinese crowd on him in the second session of the day. He will look to make it back into the semi-finals but to get there he has to negotiate a way through former winner Kyren Wilson. The other match sees Shaun Murphy looking to continue his recent revival when he takes on a player who has been threatening a major breakthrough for a while in Jack Lisowski in what should be another good contest.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets on Thursday with the first of them coming in the match between Neil Robertson and Barry Hawkins, which I fancy could well see us go over the 1.5 centuries marker. Both these men know how to score well and the tables this week look to be playing lovely so neither of them should have any trouble when they are in the balls. Robertson is a century machine who could easily cover this on his day while Hawkins has the highest break in the competition to date so we know he’s scoring well. In what looks a close match I fancy over 1.5 tons to cop here.

The other bet I like is for Shaun Murphy to see off Jack Lisowski. Murphy has a good record against Lisowski and that doesn’t surprise me because the weakness of the game of Lisowski is his safety play and the strength of Murphy is his cueing which gets him in from distance when the Lisowski safety falls down. I’ve not seen much that has changed in either regard so I’ve got to think that Murphy will win this. He clearly knows the formula for beating his opponent in this match and he’s rounding into form nicely after a couple of good wins this week. Lisowski is quality but I’m not sure his game suits playing Murphy. I’ll take the former world champion here.
