The Premier League weekend finishes with the Monday Night Football this week which comes from the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal look to move back into the top half of the table when they host a struggling Newcastle United.
It hasn’t been a great weekend for Newcastle so far with a couple of teams below them picking up wins to get closer to them in the table. Arsenal have watched on with interest but know that their best hope of domestic success comes in the FA Cup.
Where to watch
The match is part of the Monday Night Football programme which is screened on the Sky Sports Main Event and the Sky Sports Premier League channels. The programme starts at 7pm with the match kicking off at 8pm.
Arsenal
This hasn’t been the greatest season for Arsenal and just when it looked like they were finding some form and turning the corner they put in an ordinary display against Crystal Palace on Thursday night. Arsenal never really looked like scoring and while they were able to keep their fourth successive clean sheet in all competitions, a side with their resources really shouldn’t look as toothless as they have in front of goal in recent times.
It is a positive that Arsenal haven’t conceded in so long though. We have got used to them conceding at will in previous seasons so if they only need one goal to win a match rather than three or four it will certainly be helpful. Mikel Arteta has put his faith in the youngsters to provide the spark for his side but with youth you get inconsistency so it will be interesting to see if he heads back to the senior figures for this match.
Newcastle United
If Arsenal are struggling the same can certainly be said for Newcastle United, however unlike the Gunners, the Tyneside outfit haven’t been getting any positive results and the daggers are beginning to be sharpened for Steve Bruce, who you feel is a dead man walking if ever Newcastle get taken over. Newcastle are winless in their last six matches and their only two wins in the last 10 games were against an injury ravaged Crystal Palace and a terrible West Brom side.
Newcastle will hope to take confidence from the fact that they held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw inside 90 minutes in the FA Cup here just nine days ago but even then they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in extra time. Newcastle have just two goals in their last seven matches if we include the cup exits to Arsenal and to Brentford in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup. That is something that is going to have to change if they are to pick up their form.

Team News
Arsenal are hoping that Kieran Tierney will be fit for this match but the vibes weren’t overly positive it has to be said. Gabriel Martinelli is nearing a return after going down in the warm up when these two sides met in the FA Cup but Pablo Mari is out with injury.
Jamaal Lascelles returned against Arsenal in the FA Cup and he could feature in the Premier League for a couple of months in this match. Allan Saint-Maximin is said to be improving each day but this match comes too soon for him. Ryan Fraser misses out through suspension though.
Betting
I don’t think we’re in for a classic encounter here, especially if their meeting in the FA Cup is anything to go by, but this time I do fancy Arsenal to get the job done inside the 90 minutes although I would be surprised if there are an avalanche of goals. Sometimes you look at a team and you think that someone is going to get a good hiding when it all clicks but I don’t really see that from this Arsenal outfit. I think their wins in the near future will be tight and hard fought ones.
Newcastle look like a side with no confidence at all and a team who look shackled to me. Their defeat to Sheffield United was pathetic and it remains to be seen what some tough words from Bruce after that game has done for them. Either way I just don’t see them going to the Emirates and looking good. I’m expecting Arsenal to turn them over here but maybe not necessarily as convincing as people would like. For all their problems Newcastle don’t leak too many goals so Arsenal to win and under 3.5 goals looks a fair bet here.
