Super League XXIV – Friday 13th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final night of the regular Super League season on Friday and for one of four sides Friday the 13th will be incredibly lucky as one of them will exit the competition via relegation on what promises to be one of the most dramatic evenings in the history of the league.

Four teams go into the final night locked on 20pts at the bottom of the table and one of them will be relegated at the end of the night. It isn’t just at the bottom where the focus is though. The final play-off spot remains up for grabs too as is third place. It is a huge night.

Friday’s fixtures are as follows: (19.45 kick off)

Huddersfield Giants v Catalans Dragons

Hull FC v St Helens

Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves

Salford Red Devils v Hull Kingston Rovers

Wakefield Trinity v London Broncos

Preview

The big match comes at Belle Vue where two of the sides on 20pts battle it out when Wakefield Trinity take on the London Broncos. The Broncos know they have to win to have any chance of staying up. Wakefield can lose and stay up but it wouldn’t be advisable to leave it to anyone else. The other truly big match comes from the AJ Bell Stadium where Salford Red Devils could finish third with a win. They host a Hull KR side who will be relegated if they lose and the Broncos win. They will stay up if they win though. The other team who can go down are Huddersfield Giants but they have the plum last game of an injury ravaged Catalans Dragons side at home. A win keeps them up.

The other match where there is an interest comes from the KCOM Stadium where the season is on the line for Hull FC. They host the runaway leaders St Helens knowing if they can upset the Challenge Cup finalists they will fill the last spot of the play-offs. Defeat and it will be Castleford Tigers who go through. Warrington Wolves are assured of a play-off spot and they will get two chances to make the final if they can beat the Leeds Rhinos to secure third spot in the table.

Betting

I’ll take a couple of bets. In the televised game I like London Broncos to keep within eight points of Wakefield Trinity. If I’m honest I think the Broncos will win the match but given that they are getting more than a converted try it makes sense to side with them on the handicap. Putting it simply there is just too much on this match for either side to run away with it. I would be surprised if there is much in the way of point scoring in this game with two points being kicked regularly in a cup-tie type scenario. Wakefield have only won two of their last 13 matches while we saw the fighting spirit of this Broncos side last week. At the very least I’ll take the Broncos to stay within eight here.

The other bet I like will be pretty popular and that is for the Huddersfield Giants to cover a six point start against the Catalans Dragons. The Dragons look done for the season having lost their last four matches and injuries are absolutely killing them. There is no lack of motivation for the Huddersfield Giants here as while it needs something mathematically unlikely for them to go down they do need to win to ensure they stay up. The Dragons have lost their last four and scored no more than 12pts in any of them, conceding more than 40 on two occasions. Huddersfield aren’t great but they have enough to win this.
