2020-21 Premier League – Man City vs Wolves Tips, TV and Betting Preview

A bunch of midweek matches in the Premier League kicks off on Tuesday evening when the champions elect Manchester City host the team they have had a few problems against in recent times in Wolverhampton Wanderers.

City go into this match with a 12 point lead at the top of the table and will be looking to extend that to 15 with a win here while a victory for Wolves would move them back to the fringes of the top half and sniffing out European football next term.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live on BT Sport 1. The preview show for the game begins at 7.30pm with the match itself kicking off at 8pm.

Manchester City

It is no longer a case of whether Manchester City will win the league. If they don’t win the league from here it would need a bigger collapse than the one which Newcastle United underwent 20+ years ago. It is now a case of how many they will win it by and a win here, which would move them 15 points clear, will have everyone searching for the highest winning title margin records and things like that. It will also take their winning run to 21 games in all competitions.

There appears to be no stopping Manchester City at the minute. They look back to being the side who took 100 points from their rivals in this division a couple of seasons ago. They are scoring goals, potentially not as many as they should with what they create, and not conceding that many and that is a fine combination. If that isn’t enough, they have won their last 20 matches and are getting key players up to full speed after injuries.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

This has been a testing campaign for all involved at Wolverhampton Wanderers but over the last few weeks there have been signs of life again. The big problem they had and one of the reasons why they went from being genuine contenders for European football to having to come good to avoid getting reeled into the relegation battle was the injury to Raul Jimenez. It took far too long for them to work out how to play without him, but the signs are they might be starting to adjust to that.

After a period of one win in 11 matches, a somewhat fortunate one at that, Wolves have not won three of their last five and drawn the other two. Their detractors would argue that their wins over Arsenal and Southampton were heavily VAR orchestrated and their draw against Newcastle does nothing to highlight the theory that they are back to their best. They are proving harder to break down again though which was the blueprint of their success over the last couple of seasons.

Team News

Manchester City are rotating their players regularly at the minute and with the Manchester derby this weekend that is unlikely to change here. Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling all sat out the win at West Ham and could be involved here.

Raul Jimenez and Daniel Podence are both back in training but this match comes too soon for the pair of them. The same can be said of Willy Boly who also misses out here. That could see Wolves being unchanged from the draw at Newcastle.

Betting

Although Wolverhampton Wanderers have shown some improvement this last few weeks and did the double over Manchester City last season it is hard to expect anything but a home win here. City have won their last 20 matches in all competitions and while that run is going to end soon I’m not convinced that this is the match where it happens. At the same time, I’m not so sure this is a match where they are going to run the score up either.

One reason for that is they are in the middle of a hectic spell of games and the other is that they have a telling Manchester derby at the weekend, and while they are not prioritising matches, they will not want this run to end in that one so I suspect they might save themselves for that, even if it is only subconsciously. I’m not so sure that Wolves have much that is going to hurt City in this match but at the same time I don’t see them getting exposed either. I think City to win and under 3.5 goals is the bet for this one.
