Preview

The action begins with the focus on the bottom end of the table. It all starts with the Black Country derby when Wolverhampton Wanderers host West Bromwich Albion in a match between two struggling sides right now. We then head to Elland Road where Leeds United will look to put their embarrassing cup exit behind them when they host Brighton and Hove Albion who are a little closer to the danger zone than they would want to be.

The focus continues to be on the bottom in the third match of the afternoon when Burnley continue their quest to pull themselves out of trouble when they travel to a West Ham United side who are going much better than they have done in recent times. The penultimate match of the day could see Fulham coming out of the bottom three for the first time in a while when they host local rivals Chelsea before two of the more impressive sides conclude the action when Leicester City welcome Southampton to the King Power Stadium.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day here. I actually think Brighton and Hove Albion have half a chance of picking up a win at Leeds United given that the Yorkshire outfit are not the same side without Kalvin Phillips as they are with him, but the Seagulls have plenty of injury issues which puts me off backing them. It would be remiss of me not to back Lewis Dunk to score anytime at 10/1 though. We saw League 2 Crawley trouble Leeds from set-pieces last week and that has been a feature of the season for Bielsa and his men. Dunk has actually scored in the last two league games Brighton have scored in and is a big threat from corners and free kicks. The price on him notching against a side wretched defensively in that area is just too big.

I also like Fulham with a goal start on the Asian lines when they host local rivals Chelsea. Clearly the lack of fans will take the edge off this derby but it is one which I’ve always felt meant more to Fulham than Chelsea anyway. Chelsea have bigger fish to fry but this is an important match for them. Frank Lampard pretty much admitted his side were struggling when he named a strong team to take on Morecambe in the cup last week to restore some confidence, but I don’t think it is going to be easy against Fulham. This is a Fulham side who’ve lost just one of their last seven matches which was against Man City in a game they were always likely to be outgunned in. They have held Liverpool and Tottenham in that time and can add Chelsea to the list. Fulham have really improved defensively without losing their threat at the other end and a Chelsea side who’ve only won one of their last six in the league, and they weren’t convincing in that, could struggle to win here. Fulham +1 looks good to me.
