Sky Bet Championship 2021-22 – Saturday 5th February Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

With so many Sky Bet Championship sides making it through to the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend, it means the latest round of matches in the division have largely been wiped out, save for three games which have survived.

Although we are down to just the three matches there is still a TV match for us to enjoy and then the other two matches can be followed in all the usual places for those who aren’t actually going to either of them.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated – UK TV in brackets)

Blackpool vs Bristol City

Hull City vs Preston North End

Swansea City vs Blackburn Rovers (17.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Preview

The televised action actually comes at the end of the day on Saturday and it is a big one at the top of the table. Blackburn Rovers know that AFC Bournemouth are in FA Cup action this weekend so they can put four points between them and the Cherries should Rovers win away to Swansea City. The Welsh outfit should be fine in terms of not being relegated this season but they would have been expecting much more than that this term and really need to start finding some results to justify the change in style.

The other two matches come in the traditional 3pm slot and contain sides who are in the middle of the table but as we all know in this division even from that position a couple of wins in a row can do wonders for a league position. Blackpool will be looking to use home advantage when they host Bristol City while the other match sees Hull City going for a fourth win on the trot to diminish any threat of relegation when they welcome Preston North End to Humberside.

Betting

I’ll go with one over the course of the afternoon. That sees Blackpool to beat Bristol City. The rumour mill is beginning to circulate around Nigel Pearson and generally when an unpopular manager is starting to be undermined from elsewhere there is only one way it ends and the writing looks on the wall to me. Bristol City haven’t won in eight on their travels and concede goals at a bit of a crazy rate away from Ashton Gate. In those eight winless matches 23 goals have gone in against them and that trend doesn’t look to be slowing down.

Blackpool have had an excellent first half to their opening season back at this level and a win here could take them back into the top half of the table which is no mean feat. They are three unbeaten which includes taking a point at Craven Cottage last week against a rampant Fulham side, albeit in tough circumstances with what happened off the pitch at that game. Blackpool play lovely football and against a side who are shipping a ridiculous amount of goals I think the Tangerines can get the job done here.
