The final weekend in the Premier League season prior to Christmas begins on Saturday where we have what is becoming a traditional card of four matches one after the other on what should be a decent day of football.
As has been the case since the international break, all four matches are live across the various broadcasters which is as good a reason as any to sit back and put the feet up and spend a day in front of the TV watching wall to wall football.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool (12.30 – BT Sport 1)
Southampton vs Manchester City (15.00 – Amazon Prime Video)
Everton vs Arsenal (17.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
Newcastle United vs Fulham (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Premier League)

Preview
The action begins at Selhurst Park where Liverpool have had their fair share of heartache in the past and the leaders will be looking to avoid that on Saturday when they go up against a dangerous Crystal Palace side. Liverpool’s away form is leaving a little to be desired at the minute so they will be out to prove a point here. Once they are done the surprise package of the season will take centre stage as Southampton look to prove their worth when they entertain Manchester City at St Mary’s Stadium in a match where the Saints will move up to second if they win.
In terms of history the big match of the day is the third one where Everton will be looking to move into the top four for 24 hours at least when they play host to an Arsenal team who are under plenty of pressure to deliver the goods after a terrible start to the season. The last match of the day sees a Newcastle United side looking to make up for their midweek humbling at Leeds when they host a Fulham team for whom the points are more valuable than normal as the chase to escape the bottom three is beginning to intensify.
Betting
There is only one match which catches my eye from a betting point of view and that is the one between Everton and Arsenal where I am expecting the home side to be too good for the visitors managed by something of a hero at Goodison Park. Arsenal are without a win in six and seemingly can’t keep 11 men on the pitch at the minute and look a bit of a mess. Being away from home probably suits them more but they look impotent in front of goal at present and that has to be a concern.
Everton had a bit of a wobble around the last international break when injuries and suspensions were biting them hard but they have got everyone back in and are looking like the team who were the early leaders in the Premier League as a result. They have flair and goals in their side up front but they are better organised and harder to break down at the back. Confidence is everything in sport and one team has it here in Everton and one doesn’t in Arsenal. I’ll take the team carrying the confidence here.
