Preview

The action begins at the Etihad Stadium where the champions elect Manchester City take on the surprise package of the season in West Ham United. The Hammers begin the afternoon in the Champions League places but this is a huge test of their credentials. They will be hoping they get City at the right time after their long trip in midweek. There is a huge clash at the bottom of the table in the second match as West Bromwich Albion might already be drinking at the last chance saloon when they host a Brighton and Hove Albion side who are one of the few they might just be able to catch. The Seagulls will be looking to respond from their disappointment on Monday night.

Two of the better teams to watch this season clash in the third game of the day where Leeds United host Aston Villa in a match which pits two extremely progressive sides against each other in what should be a really good watch. The last game of the night might just be the biggest in the season so far for Newcastle United who have slid dangerous close to the bottom three. They host a Wolverhampton Wanderers team who have picked up in recent weeks and if the home side lose they could drop into the bottom three later in the weekend.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet which comes in that third game of the afternoon where I like Leeds United to get the better of Aston Villa. I say that for a few reasons, the main one being that Villa remains without their talisman Jack Grealish and without him last week they looked pretty ordinary it has to be said. The flip side is that Leeds are missing Kalvin Phillips but they coped perfectly fine without him in midweek against a very good Southampton team who happened to play well in that game.

The other reasons I like Leeds here is after a good first half of the campaign, Villa have just found the going a little tough in recent weeks. They have lost six of their last 10 matches and a couple of key injuries are beginning to leave them exposed. I’m also wary of the fact that only once this term have they won when they have conceded a goal and I’m just not convinced they will keep out this Leeds offensive unit. I’ve highlighted my concerns over Leeds’ home record a few times this term but they’ve emphatically won their last two so seem to be sorting out that issue. I think if there is a winner in this one it will be the home side.
