2020-21 Premier League – Tuesday 18th May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Fans are back in the Premier League stadiums this week and the penultimate round of matches for the season begins on Tuesday evening when four fixtures take place including a massive one in the race for the Champions League places.

Supporters might be returning to matches but there are still not enough in terms of capacity for the league to stop all matches being shown live through their various broadcasters. That means we can watch all four matches, although you’ll need more than one device to watch them all!

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)

Manchester United vs Fulham (18.00 – Sky Main Event)

Southampton vs Leeds United (18.00 – Sky Premier League & Sky Mix)

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City (19.00 – BT Sport 1)

Chelsea vs Leicester City (20.15 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

Preview

The early part of the evening includes a couple of largely dead rubbers, although Manchester United do still need three more points in order to secure second place in the final table. They will be expected to get that on Tuesday evening when they welcome Fulham to what could be a tetchy Old Trafford in light of fans being back for the first time in a while and the recent protests that have gone on. The other match to kick off in the first stage of the night sees Southampton play host to a Leeds United side who were buzzing at Burnley on Saturday.

The best match of the night to watch in terms of aesthetics could well be the third one to kick off which sees Brighton and Hove Albion going up against the champions Manchester City, for whom staying fresh for the Champions League final is surely the only priority from here on in. The final match of the evening is the big one though as Chelsea host Leicester City in a repeat of the FA Cup final from the weekend in a clash that whoever loses could find their top four hopes out of their own hands heading into the final match of the season on Sunday.

Betting

There is only the one bet which catches my eye on Tuesday evening with it coming from St Mary’s Stadium where I’m expecting goals. I mentioned at the weekend that Southampton just can’t keep clean sheets at the minute and the Fulham goal in that game now means the only clean sheet they have kept in their last 19 matches came against Sheffield United, which doesn’t really count given that they are comfortably the lowest scorers in the competition.

Only West Bromwich Albion have conceded more goals than Southampton this season so you’ve got to think that a Leeds United side who have just put four past Burnley and who look to be purring at the minute. In saying that, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has given an indication of how important the last two matches are by allowing Robin Koch and Mateusz Klich to end their season early to prepare for the Euros which begin next month. That might give Southampton a way to goal in this one. Leeds won the reverse meeting 3-0 but there was no Danny Ings or Theo Walcott for the Saints that day. Both are available here which should strengthen Saints’ hopes of scoring so over 3 goals in a dead rubber between two front foot sides will do for me.
