2020-21 Premier League – Tuesday 26th January Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League has a midweek set of fixtures this week which begins on Tuesday evening when four matches take place on a night where events towards the bottom end of the table are mostly in the spotlight despite a couple of big teams being in action.

Although the attention will largely be towards the bottom end of the standings on Tuesday, there could be a change at the top so this could be an important night in the top flight season, one where all four games are live on the TV.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)

Newcastle United vs Leeds United (18.00 – BT Sport 1)

Crystal Palace vs West Ham United (18.00 – BT Sport 2)

Southampton vs Arsenal (20.15 – BT Sport 1)

West Bromwich Albion vs Manchester City (20.15 – BT Sport 2)

Preview

There are two matches in each kick off slot on Tuesday with the action in the first one seeing two out of form teams meeting at St James’ Park where Newcastle United look to start to turn their season around when they go up against Leeds United, while at the same time there is a London derby in the capital as Crystal Palace go up against a West Ham United team who are having a great season and who could move into the top four with a win here which would be quite some effort.

The later games could see Manchester City replace their rivals from the red side of Manchester at the top of the table when they make the trip to The Hawthorns to take on a West Bromwich Albion side who have already taken a point from them this term, albeit when Slaven Bilic was in charge of them. The other match comes from St Mary’s Stadium where Southampton meet Arsenal for the second time in three days after the Saints came out on top when the two faced off in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Betting

There is a lot of football coming up over the next few weeks so I’m going to keep it simple here and take just the one bet which comes in the earlier kick off slot where I’m taking Leeds United to beat Newcastle United. I mentioned on Saturday just how terrible Newcastle are at the minute and although Steve Bruce reckoned he saw some positives in the defeat to Aston Villa nobody else did. They look ripe for being picked off once again to me.

There is a lot of talk about Leeds being out of form but in terms of the league the truth of the matter is they have put in two poor performances, one of them at Tottenham where they were unlikely to win and the other against Brighton, which was incredibly disappointing but to be fair to them there was no Kalvin Phillips or Illan Meslier, two pretty important cogs in the wheel for Marcelo Bielsa. Both are back for this game which is likely to be significant. Leeds beat Newcastle 5-2 in the reverse fixture in a match in which they had 25 shots and Newcastle had no answer when it came to stopping them. There might not be as many goals or shots here but I don’t think there will be a different result.
