2020-21 Sky Bet Championship – Brentford vs Rotherham Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is bonus Sky Bet Championship action on Tuesday evening when Rotherham United have their latest attempt to try and drag themselves closer to the safety zone at the bottom of the division when they head to the capital to take on Brentford.

The league campaign for the Bees has been quite disappointing in the last couple of months or so and if they are to finally get to the Premier League they will have to do so through the play-offs so this match means much more to the visitors than the hosts.

Where to watch

The match will be shown in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and the Sky Sports Premier League channels with the programme beginning at 6.30pm and the game kicking off at 7pm.

Brentford

It looked at one stage like this would be a cruise of a season to the Premier League for Brentford allowing them to eradicate the heartache of that play-off defeat to Fulham at the end of the previous campaign but it has all gone a little pear-shaped in recent times. Whether that is the matches catching up with them after their run to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup or the doubts of previous seasons kicking in I’m not sure but clearly they are struggling at present.

They might not be losing matches but they have only won two of their last eight which is something of a concern. You get the feeling that if they are to navigate the play-offs they have to finish the regular season off with a flourish and carry form and confidence with them. You’d never attribute Brentford with struggling to score goals but only once in their last seven matches have they found the net more than once. That is a huge surprise.

Rotherham United

To be fair to Rotherham United they have given staying up in the Championship a real good go this term despite the issues which Covid-19 have brought upon them. One of those issues is a crazy schedule to end the season with this match being a part of that. It is easy to say the end of the season is in sight but you either have energy left in the legs or you don’t. Rotherham fans will hope their players can find something as including this one they face four matches in 11 days to end the campaign.

The signs have been that tiredness is getting the better of Rotherham. At a time when you would think they would be striving their hardest to get results they have lost their last four matches, although the decision to allow the Barnsley winner on Saturday was a bit of a nonsense. More of a concern in that time is that they have only scored one goal in the four defeats and if they are going to stay up they need to pose and provide much more of a goal threat.

Team News

Thomas Frank will be without his captain Pontus Jansson for this match so Charlie Goode could be the one to come into the side. Brentford remain without Rico Henry and Josh Dasilva but Bryan Mbuemo is ready to start.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne will need to call on the services of Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman between the sticks after regular stopper Viktor Johansson has been ruled out with concussion after the incident which led to the Barnsley winner on Saturday. George Hirst and Florian Josefzoon are options up front.

Betting

It is hard to see a high scoring classic here purely because of the situation that Rotherham United find themselves in. There has been an air of a free hit or two about their recent matches but now their situation is pretty dire. They sit four points behind Derby County and although they have two games in hand, were they to lose here and to Blackburn on Saturday, Derby would be able to relegate them at the weekend so Rotherham really need something from this, even if it is just a point.

It remains to be seen what we’ll get from Brentford now that their season is done until the play-offs come around. I’m sure they’d like to find a goal threat from somewhere but it might be that preserving key players and making sure they are fresh for the end of season lottery is the way they will go about things. Even if they are at full strength they’ve only scored more than once on one occasion in their last seven. They’ve only conceded one goal in their last five at the same time so under 2.5 goals looks like the way to go here.
