The Championship weekend continues on Saturday afternoon when the race for the Premier League and the battle for that final play-off place will intensify on what looks like being yet another defining day in the second tier.
As ever with a Saturday we begin the action with a televised match which will be of particular interest to me this week! Club feeds, social media and the other usual forms will be the way to keep up with the other games.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)
Luton Town v Swansea City (12.15 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Birmingham City v Bristol City
AFC Bournemouth v Barnsley
Cardiff City v Watford
Derby County v Millwall
Middlesbrough v Stoke City
Nottingham Forest v Reading
Queens Park Rangers v Huddersfield Town
Wycombe Wanderers v Preston North End

Big Matches
It is the race for promotion which takes the spotlight in the TV match to get the day started when Swansea City will look to move into second place for a few hours at least when they head to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town. Avoiding defeat will see the Swans into second but then a few hours later Watford will be able to be the third side to occupy that position on Saturday when they make the trip to face form horses Cardiff City. The other big match on Saturday comes from the Vitality Stadium where AFC Bournemouth host Barnsley in a clash which sees two sides in the race for sixth place meeting each other.
Best of the Rest
Middlesbrough and Stoke City won’t have completely given up hope of gate-crashing the top six but when they meet at the Riverside Stadium only the winners will still have that ambition intact. At the other end of the table Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town have the chance to pull themselves away from danger with Rotherham United and Coventry City having had their clash cancelled. Birmingham play host to Bristol City while Huddersfield make the trip to QPR.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet on Saturday afternoon and those who have followed our Championship bets for a while will not be surprised to know that it comes in the match featuring Huddersfield Town. Taking them on when they have been on their travels has been a lucrative formula in recent times and although QPR aren’t the greatest side in the world they are good enough to get the job done on their own patch against the Terriers.
It is now no wins in 12 on the road for Huddersfield and just three points in that time, with draws at Wycombe and Coventry hardly the greatest form guide and the draw against Luton they were heavily outplayed in that game. Rangers had a bit of a wobble a couple of weeks ago but look to be on the other side of that now with successive wins, which while not completely convincing, came without conceding a goal and has eased any relegation concerns that still lingered. Huddersfield just don’t impress on the road so I expect QPR to get a result here.
