Big Matches
The TV game this week comes from the City Ground where Nottingham Forest will finally attempt to lay the ghost of last season to rest when they take on a Cardiff City team who are injury ravaged. Both teams lost their first game of the new campaign last week so both will be eager to get going here. Elsewhere, all three relegated sides from the Premier League are in action. AFC Bournemouth head to the Riverside to face Middlesbrough while Norwich City host Preston North End. Watford look to build on their opening week win when they head to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday.
Best of the Rest
One of the favourites for promotion, Brentford, will look to get their season started to begin to make up for the disappointment of last season when they host a Huddersfield Town side who are in transition at the present time. Luton picked up where they left off last week and now host Derby County at Kenilworth Road while Blackburn Rovers welcome Wycombe Wanderers to Ewood Park. Rotherham United play their first home match back in the Championship when they host Millwall while one of the better sides from last season, Swansea City, host Birmingham City.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the afternoon with the first of those being on a Blackburn Rovers side that I was pretty keen on before the season started and a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth hasn’t really dampened that enthusiasm. The general feeling ahead of the season was that Wycombe will struggle and that appeared to be the case as they lost to Rotherham last week. There are some teams in the league that the physical style Wycombe utilise will catch out but I don’t see Blackburn being one of them. They can handle themselves in that department and with the goals they have in them I expect them to come away with their first league win of the campaign.
The other bet I like is for Luton Town to beat Derby County. If you take the form since lockdown into account Luton are going brilliantly well at the minute whereas things are more of a struggle for the Rams. The Hatters have already got up and running with three wins this term whereas Derby laboured to a penalty shootout win over Barrow and have lost twice since then. A reason for that is the amount of injured players Derby have out and not much is changing in that regard for the visitors. Luton are at near enough full strength with the only players out unlikely to get in their team anyway and although home form hasn’t been brilliant since lockdown I expect them to have enough to see off a depleted Derby side.
