Big Matches
Two promotion chasers meet in the first match of the day which is the televised game when Bournemouth will look to stop the excellent form of Watford. If the Hornets avoid defeat in that match they will move up to second in the table for a few hours. Bournemouth have dropped out of the top six now and really need to win to get back in there. With the leaders Norwich City not in action until Sunday, Brentford and Swansea City will look to close the gap on them when they host Stoke City and Bristol City respectively.
Best of the Rest
It is a big day for three teams in immediate trouble at the bottom end of the table. Sheffield Wednesday are now second bottom and they head on the road to face Luton Town while third bottom Rotherham United welcome Reading to the New York Stadium. Birmingham City have their heads just above water and they host QPR on Saturday. Cardiff City will look to strengthen their top six chances when they make the long trip to take on former manager Neil Warnock while Barnsley and Millwall will look to keep up their play-off charge when they meet at Oakwell.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the afternoon on Saturday and it comes from St Andrews where once again I just have to take on this poor Birmingham City outfit. As it happens they take on a form horse in QPR who have won six of their last eight matches with a draw and a solitary loss in that time. On the road Rangers are undefeated in seven and that includes a draw at Norwich and a win at Watford which are probably better results now than they might have been at the time.
It is not so rosy for Birmingham, particularly on their home soil. They are without a win in 12 home matches and I’m not surprised having watched them earlier in the month. They only have one point in their last nine home matches and don’t score enough goals and don’t look like keeping them out. Things aren’t much better away from home although they have won a couple of matches but it is just two wins in 15 and one of those was at Sheffield Wednesday who were down to 10 men for most of the second half. The form of these two are chalk and cheese so I’m happy to be on the visitors here at the price.
