The majority of the Sky Bet Championship matches this weekend take place on Saturday as the division continues on at quite some pace. We are now into the second half of the campaign so there is an increasing importance in the games now.

The good thing about the 10 matches on the slate for Saturday is that two of them are live on TV for us to enjoy throughout the day. The club streams have the other ones on their platform and there are the usual other ways of keeping up with the action.

Big Matches

The televised action sees the leaders Norwich City looking to move nine points clear at the summit of the table for a few hours at least when they play host to Middlesbrough in the first half of the double header. Once that one has concluded the focus will turn towards Stoke City to see if they can get their promotion challenge back on track when they make the trip to Yorkshire to take on a Huddersfield Town side whose only consistency is that they are wholly inconsistent! There is a big match at the New York Stadium where second placed Swansea City make the trip north to take on a Rotherham United side who will be eyeing up escaping the bottom three.

Best of the Rest

Brentford have the chance to do their promotion challenge the world of good when they entertain rock bottom Wycombe Wanderers. Bristol City will be looking to close in on the top six when they head up to Pride Park to take on Derby County, who themselves will be wanting to pull away from the bottom three. Sheffield Wednesday are getting into dire need for some results with teams at the bottom beginning to put runs together. They host Preston North End while elsewhere Mick McCarthy has his first home game as Cardiff City boss when they host Millwall. Blackburn Rovers take on Luton Town while there is also the St Andrews derby as Birmingham City host Coventry City.

Betting

It is the match at St Andrews which catches my eye from a betting point of view. I like the visitors if you can call them that in Coventry City. That is an about turn from midweek where I was opposing Coventry but to be fair their new signings look like they have settled in and they offered up a lot more than they had in recent times. Whatever Coventry do or don’t offer I just think Birmingham have to be taken on here because as I’ve mentioned previously, their home form is horrendous.

The Blues are the worst home team in the league in terms of points picked up and the reason for that is pretty obvious. They have only found the net eight times in 13 games and at home that is bordering on pathetic. They have lost eight of their last nine home matches and in all that time they have scored just four goals. That is terrible. To be fair Coventry are not the most free scoring side in the world but after a confidence boosting win in midweek I think they have to be backed to get something from this game.
