The Championship weekend got off to a pretty one-sided start on Friday night when Bournemouth thrashed Barnsley to go to the top of the table and the rest of the fixtures take place on what should be a decent day of action on Saturday.
As with the majority of Saturday’s this season there is one match live on the TV for us to enjoy and then it is off to the club streaming services to keep up with all the others, or their media feeds if you don’t want to part with £10.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)
Reading v Nottingham Forest (12.30pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)
Brentford v Blackburn Rovers
Bristol City v Birmingham City
Coventry City v Rotherham United
Huddersfield Town v Queens Park Rangers
Millwall v Derby County
Norwich City v Sheffield Wednesday

Big Matches
The televised offering comes from the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon when Reading look to continue their revival after that slump prior to the international break when they host a Nottingham Forest outfit who continue to flatter to deceive even under Chris Hughton and who really need a positive result if they can get it. The other big match on Saturday afternoon sees the leaders going into the round of matches, Norwich City, looking to bounce back from their midweek disappointment at Luton when they host Sheffield Wednesday in something of a clash of styles to say the least.
Best of the Rest
Two other sides can move level on points with the current leaders AFC Bournemouth at the top of the table with wins on Saturday. They are Bristol City and Watford who host Birmingham City and Cardiff City respectively. At the other end of the table Wayne Rooney will be eyeing up a first win as Derby County boss when he takes his charges to the capital to take on Millwall who will have 2,000 fans back for this one. Wycombe Wanderers are also in the bottom three but they will be looking for three points when they make the trip to Deepdale to take on Preston North End. The best match of the day could well come as Brentford host Blackburn Rovers.
Betting
I’m going to go for two bets in this set of matches. The first bet comes in the form of a Millwall side who I took on in midweek and got lucky when a deflected shot late on beat them. They host Derby County who are not going at all well this season. I keep reading how they are better than what they are showing but at some point people need to accept that might not be the case and you could tell in midweek that they have forgotten how to win. Millwall could be guilty of that as well because they have gone seven without a win themselves but they have a significant advantage in this match in that they have 2,000 fans back in The New Den. That doesn’t sound a lot but as someone who was lucky enough to return to football myself on Wednesday night let me tell you it will mean everything to the home players. It is probably the last thing these Derby players needed though so I’m taking the home side to make the most of the return of their supporters by getting the job done here.
The other bet I like is for Bristol City to see off Birmingham City at Ashton Gate. The Robins don’t have the advantage of having supporters back but they do have the ability to take care of a limited Birmingham City side who I watched my own team Luton Town against last week and was not at all impressed with them. Bristol City have the defenders to keep Lukas Jutkiewicz quiet and that is half the game done. Birmingham have only won three matches all season and one of those was on the opening day of the campaign. Since then they’ve won at Preston who can’t seem to get anything going at home and beaten Huddersfield who are no great shakes. Bristol City have won four of their last six with only a defeat at Reading blotting their copybook. I don’t think that is a bad result all things being equal though. They look an infinitely better side than Birmingham and should be able to take advantage of tasty odds here.
