Big Matches
The TV match starts off the action over the course of Saturday as Coventry City play host to a Watford side who will be looking to get their promotion challenge back on track after defeat to QPR on Monday night. The other big game of the day comes from up at the Riverside Stadium where Middlesbrough could move into the top six but they will need to beat a Brentford side who will be looking to reclaim their place in the top two, and need to win to get that position back.
Best of the Rest
Reading will also be looking to maintain their hunt for automatic promotion when they travel to take on a Stoke City side who are finding wins hard to come by at the present time while AFC Bournemouth will begin life under Jonathan Woodgate when they entertain Birmingham City. At the other end of the table Wycombe Wanderers need to start winning games with a bit of urgency and they host Nottingham Forest while the other two sides in the relegation zone at the beginning of play – Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United travel to Millwall and Preston North End respectively. Blackburn Rovers will be hoping to move into the top six when they head to the capital to face QPR.
Betting
This is a round of matches where I rarely get too heavily involved because there was a lot of squad changes on deadline day and that will effect sides for the good in some cases and the not so good in other cases so there needs to be a period of reflection which can only really be done when we know how all the teams are going to line up with their new personnel. I will go with one bet though and I’ll stick to what I know and back the side I support in Luton Town.
Luton host Huddersfield Town who regular readers will know have a terrible recent away record so the Hatters will fancy their chances here. A significant development ahead of this match could be that Elijah Adebajo signed for Luton on deadline day when it was reported Huddersfield wanted him. That suggests the Terriers’ hierarchy believe they are light on firepower and actually heading into this game they look to have something of an injury problem. Scoring goals has been Luton’s problem in recent times so the addition of Adebajo to add competition and of Tom Ince should be significant. Although Luton aren’t scoring many goals they do play well at Kenilworth Road and with Huddersfield struggling on their travels the home win with plenty of draw cover looks nice here.
