2020 ATP Delray Beach Open Tennis – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of main draw action at the Delray Beach Open in Florida sees the first round draw to a close on Tuesday, when the remaining 10 matches take place across three courts in the latest ATP 250 event.

The big names were saved for this second day of action, one where we will see the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Milos Raonic, Taylor Fritz and the defending champion Radu Albot all looking to make it into round two of the tournament.

Stadium Court

It is the leading ranked American in the tournament on show first up in the day session in the main stadium as Taylor Fritz begins his campaign for a home title against the British qualifier Cameron Norrie. Milos Raonic will be next onto centre stage for his first round clash against the lucky loser Denis Istomin, an experienced campaigner who will be out to make full use of his second chance. The day session then concludes with the big serving number four seed Reilly Opelka going up against the man who has twice been a winner here in the past in Ernests Gulbis.

We have a night session on the main court on Tuesday as well and it sees the defending champion Radu Albot beginning his title defence to begin with. He will go up against the American wildcard into the event in Jack Sock, in a match which will be interesting to see if the man from Kansas City can finally get his career back on track. The number one seed Nick Kyrgios closes out the day on the main court when he faces yet another American player in Tommy Paul.

Court 1

The action out on Court 1 begins with another of the doubles contests but when the singles gets going we have two matches that should be laced with quality, and could be deserving of a better stage than the one they have got. The first one sees Miomir Kecmanovic taking on the Australian player Jordan Thompson before the eighth seed Ugo Humbert meets the winner of the New York Open last week in Kyle Edmund to round off the play on this court.

Court 4

The remaining three singles matches all take place out on Court 4 and they begin with a lucky loser against a man in the field on a protected ranking as Bernard Tomic gets a second chance in the event against Cedrik-Marcel Stebe. Home favourite Steve Johnson will then take to the court to do battle with Henri Laaksonen before the last of the singles matches out in this part of the complex sees the qualifier Noah Rubin going up against Jason Jung, who made a bit of a name for himself in New York last week and will want to do the same here too.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets throughout the Tuesday play with the first of them coming on the main court as Ernests Gulbis steps out into an arena which will hold good memories for him having won the title here twice. He takes on Reilly Opelka who has a big booming serve but he isn’t in the greatest form of all time. Nevertheless, I’m not expecting too many service breaks here so I fancy the over 24.5 games will land in this one. If there is three sets in the match there is no way this one will lose, but a couple of tiebreaks gets the job done as well which is a good thing to have on our side. Even a 76 75 gets it done so there are a lot of ways that two men who protect their serve well can deliver the goods for us here.

I accept there is the school of thought that backing up a winning week is never easy, both physically and mentally, but I still fancy Kyle Edmund to see off Ugo Humbert in the first round here. The reason Edmund won in New York is because he is playing well and after a period of struggle, I don’t expect him to drop his standards. Tiredness might come into play the deeper he goes in this competition but I don’t see it being the case this early on. Edmund is made for hard courts with a strong serve and that booming forehand and those weapons can see off a Humbert, who won in Auckland last month but who has delivered little of note since then.
