2020 Belgian Darts Championship – Last 16 Tips and Betting Preview

The final day of the Belgian Darts Championship takes place on Sunday when the 16 remaining men play down to a champion in Hasselt on what should be a wonderful day to conclude the first European Tour event of the campaign.

We didn’t see too many shocks on Saturday so the majority of the truly big names have made it into what should be a belting day on Sunday. The last 16 takes place in the afternoon which we will preview here, but time restrictions will stop us previewing the rest of the event in the evening.

First Four Matches

The action begins with the pick of the eight matches as the world number one Michael van Gerwen takes on the main who hit a nine dart finish in the Premier League on Thursday night in Michael Smith. Mervyn King will then look to book his place in the quarter final when he goes up against Martijn Kleermaker before the world champion Peter Wright is back on stage. His first assignment on Sunday sees him taking on Danny Noppert and then we go to the break with Krzysztof Ratajski meeting Rob Cross.

Later Four Matches

The action resumes with a couple of Dutch players facing off against each other when Dirk van Duijvenbode going up against Jeffrey de Zwaan before two class acts meet as James Wade takes on one of our outright bets to have made it through to the final day in Nathan Aspinall. Jamie Hughes is our other outright bet and he is in action in the penultimate match of the afternoon session when he takes on Gerwyn Price. The last match of the afternoon sees Mensur Suljovic going up against Steve West.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the afternoon with the first of them coming right off the bat with Michael Smith to beat Michael van Gerwen. I’m not saying Smith is a certainty or anything but there is no doubt in my mind that he is overpriced. MVG is pottering along but he isn’t the demolition machine we have seen in previous campaigns and that brings Smith right into the game. Smith has the scoring power to have van Gerwen under pressure and if he can hit his doubles, and I think he is more reliable earlier in a tournament and as an underdog so I don’t see too much in the way of an issue there, then he has every chance of coming through here. At 13/5 he’s worth a play.

The other bet I like is for Krzysztof Ratajski to beat Rob Cross. Cross has not been at the races all year long and I’ve seen nothing to suggest that anything is about to change here. Ratajski has been in wonderful form this season and his win over Gabriel Clemens on Saturday was an appealing one. The Polish player is very much on the up, getting better and playing at a higher level than Cross right now. Cross needs to rediscover his best form. I’m sure he’ll do it at some point but until he does the even money on Ratajski to win this match looks a good bet.
