2020 BMW PGA Championship Golf – Round 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The flagship event of the European Tour embarks on ‘Moving Day’ on Saturday when the third round of the BMW PGA Championship takes place around the West Course at Wentworth on what could be a big day in the season.

We have a leaderboard that is in good shape and packed with big names and a golf course that is playing wonderfully. The weather is set fair for the day too so we should be treated to a decent day of golf as the field look to get themselves into position to strike on Sunday.

Round 2 Recap

At the end of the second round we have joint leaders of the tournament in the form of the home man Matthew Fitzpatrick and The Open champion Shane Lowry. They sit on 12 under par with Tyrrell Hatton a shot further back on 11 under. Victor Perez and JB Hansen are next in the field at nine under ahead of Grant Forrest and Adri Arnaus who are on eight under. Scott Hend and Eddie Pepperell are the other two men within five of the lead.

It wasn’t the best day for us betting wise as we looked to back up the wonderful first day but we managed to salvage the early losses to lose just around 0.8pts on the day. Eddie Pepperell didn’t land anything from our second round leader punt while two under from Adri Arnaus wasn’t enough to win his three ball. Matthias Schwab managed to come up with the goods though by winning his three ball to get back most of the losses.

Saturday Betting

There is a third round leader market on offer on Saturday but it revolves around three men which is understandable because not only are Shane Lowry, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton two and three shots ahead of the nearest challengers, they are of the top level in terms of quality of player and all three are well suited to this course so you’ve got to think that one of them will lead. There isn’t a huge amount of value in any of them though in truth and of the rest it is hard to see anyone carding the six or seven under round that will be needed to get the better of the main three, at least one of whom is likely to shoot under par for his third 18 holes. I’ll give this one a miss here.

Saturday 2 Balls

The field has been cut and those remaining will go out for the third round in two balls all off the first tee. The leading pair of Matthew Fitzpatrick and Shane Lowry head off at 12.40 BST with Tyrrell Hatton and Victor Perez out 10 minutes before them. If crowds were allowed to Wentworth for this tournament then among the groups that would have got a decent following are the ones with Tommy Fleetwood and Sami Valimaki at 11.40 BST and Matt Wallace out with Martin Kaymer for a third straight day at 10.20 BST. My bet comes from one of the other groups.

Adri Arnaus vs JB Hansen

Match tees off at 12.20 BST

The third to last group out onto the golf course on Saturday sees two men from the continent looking to push for their first Rolex Series title over the weekend as Adri Arnaus and JB Hansen go off on their third round four and three shots back respective so very much still in the mix.

I think Hansen will be the man who will strengthen his title credentials here not just because he is a shot closer to the lead starting out this third round but also because the forecast is for plenty of gusts of wind and history would suggest that he is better suited to the windier conditions than his Spanish playing partner, who fell apart in tough conditions up in Scotland last week. Hansen is longer off the tee which is likely to count here and is putting much better than Arnaus. With the Dane’s comfort in the wind and his better putting I think he comes out on top in this two ball on Saturday.
