The final day of the German Darts Championship will be played out on Sunday out in Hildesheim as 16 players have their eye on the second European Tour title of the year and an immediate qualification for the European Championship as a result.
We all know the schedule from here on in. The last 16 will be played out in the afternoon session with the quarter finals through to the final in the evening. The usual time constraints will stop us previewing those but we can attack the last 16 matches.
First Four Matches
The action begins with the world number one Michael van Gerwen looking to continue his progression through the draw. He faces a man who has regularly given him problems in the past in Mervyn King before the start of the tasty matches come along. The first of those sees Mensur Suljovic going up against James Wade in an even looking contest before the world champion Peter Wright meets Jonny Clayton. We then hit the interval when two heavy scorers meet as Dave Chisnall faces Nathan Aspinall.

Later Four Matches
The bottom half of the draw has opened up a little after the play on Saturday so we get two qualifiers picking up the action after the break as the home man Max Hopp goes up against the former BDO world finalist in Danny Noppert. The pick of the matches from the second half of the afternoon sees the defending champion Daryl Gurney taking on Glen Durrant. The final two clashes sees Devon Petersen up against Rob Cross and Krzysztof Ratajski meeting Joe Cullen.
Betting
There is just the one match that interests me in this session of play from a betting persuasion although obviously we will be hoping that our outright bet Krzysztof Ratajski makes it through to set up an interesting evening. The bet I like comes in the match before then however where Devon Petersen goes up against the former world champion Rob Cross in a match where I’m expecting the South African to come through.
Petersen was 5-1 down to Gerwyn Price on Saturday but came roaring back to beat the Welshman 6-5 and hit eight 180s in that match. The South African is one of the most improved players on the circuit at present, if not the most improved, and it is clear to see that his confidence is high. That isn’t the case with Rob Cross. Although he beat Willie O’Connor on Saturday he wasn’t overly convincing and there were quite a few occasions that his throw continued to look awkward. Assuming Petersen takes the chances he created I expect him to win here.
