2020 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The third day of action in the Grand Slam of Darts sees half of the groups finish off on an afternoon where despite the round robin format we have four knockout matches inside the Ricoh Arena to keep us entertained on Wednesday.

Four of the groups play their final matches and while we already know the likes of Dave Chisnall, Simon Whitlock and James Wade have already qualified we will find out who will join them in the knockout stages later in the week.

First Four Matches

The way the session is put together we have four effectively dead rubbers up first and then come the four knockout matches so we get underway in Group B where Simon Whitlock will be looking to confirm top spot when he takes on Adam Gawlas. Dave Chisnall then looks to win Group D when he takes on Justin Pipe before James Wade looks to guarantee he is the man to win Group F when he meets an out of sorts Glen Durrant before Dimitri Van den Bergh faces the BDO world champion Wayne Warren to take us to the halfway mark of the afternoon.

Later Four Matches

It is all about these later four matches on Wednesday as they are all knockout clashes and we begin in Group F where one of Jermaine Wattimena and Damon Heta will win to go through with James Wade. It is then the turn of Group B to be settled when Gary Anderson takes on Ryan Searle for a place in the last 16. Nathan Aspinall hasn’t yet made it through. He needs to beat Ricky Evans in the penultimate match of the afternoon and then we finish with the former world champion Rob Cross going up against the reigning World Youth champion Luke Humphries.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day here and we’ll begin with the match between Gary Anderson and Ryan Searle where the Scot looks there for the taking. He isn’t playing well at the minute and that is clearly as a result of some sort of injury to his knee. You get the feeling this match is all about Searle. We know he is going to score well because that is what he does so if he can hit the doubles to a decent percentage he should be the one to come through. Anderson won’t give up but I sense his heart isn’t truly in it at the minute and given that he isn’t in the field for the Players Championship Finals next week he can get himself sorted for the World Championship. I’ll take Searle to put Anderson out of his misery.

The other bet comes in the final match of the day when Luke Humphries takes on Rob Cross in a match I think the youngster can win. Cross is flattering to deceive at the minute. He looks good for a couple of legs and then he falls apart but once he starts pulling darts here there and everywhere there is no way of getting his equilibrium back. Humphries has played pretty well in this tournament and but for a missed dart at a double against Dave Chisnall in the opening match he would already be through. His scoring power can get the pressure on Cross and I expect Humphries to take full advantage of that by winning to seal the last spot in the last 16 on Wednesday.
