2020 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The group stage of the Grand Slam of Darts concludes on Thursday evening when the four remaining groups are completed on what could be a pretty dramatic night of darts inside the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

We know half of the last 16 line up already and with every player in action on Thursday still able to mathematically progress to the knockout stages there is sure to be a lot of fun and games over the course of the evening session.

First Four Matches

We begin the night with Group C where Jose de Sousa goes in search of the win which should book his place in the knockout stages when he takes on a Lisa Ashton who needs a big win and hope the other result goes their way. Michael Smith will then set about getting the few legs he needs to win this group when he takes on Krzysztof Ratajski who needs to better de Sousa’s result to qualify. We then head to Group G where Mikuru Suzuki will be looking for a big win when she takes on Jonny Clayton in order to keep her hopes alive. We then hit the halfway mark of the evening when Gerwyn Price takes on Ryan Joyce with Joyce needing to better the result of Clayton in order to make it through.

Later Four Matches

Group E gets the second half of the evening session underway as we see Ian White taking on the World Grand Prix finalist Dirk van Duijvenbode. Both men are likely to have to win to have any chance of going through so this could be the most competitive match of the night. The best match could be the one that follows it as Peter Wright takes on Devon Petersen with the world champion likely to have to win to make progress. The night concludes with Group A where Gabriel Clemens has the chance to put one foot into the knockout stages when he goes up against Adam Hunt before Michael van Gerwen meets Joe Cullen to finish off the group stage.

Betting

I’ll go with just the one bet over the course of the night and it comes along in the form of the match between Ian White and Dirk van Duijvenbode where I think the Englishman should be a shorter favourite than he actually is. Dirk has gone really well over the last six weeks or so but he is still relatively new to big time darts whereas White has been around for a while and is used to repeating performances time after time.

The other reason why I like White here is because he knows to have any chance of going through he has to win this match whereas Dirk can progress with a defeat and then it starts coming down to leg difference and things and once the mind starts thinking about that it can all go west pretty quickly. White hasn’t done a whole lot wrong this week, he’s just run into a couple of monster performances but I just feel that there is more chance of missed doubles from the Dutchman so I’ll take White here.
