We reach the halfway mark of the third week of A Night at the Darts on Wednesday night, the evening event brought to us by the team at Modus Darts. Once again five players battle it out in their homes to keep us entertained in our homes during this lockdown period.
Tuesday night’s session was as good a set of matches as we have seen in any of the home events and hopefully we get much more of the same when the action gets underway on what promises to be a decent evening of arrers on Wednesday.
The Format
Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Tuesday Recap
We had some of the best matches of the lot on Tuesday night and at the end of the evening it was David Evans who came out on top courtesy of winning all four of his matches, the last of which was done with an amazing 113.86 average. He edged out Wessel Nijman by a win courtesy of beating the Dutchman in a deciding leg. Kyle McKinstry picked up a couple of wins of his own and there was a win for Fallon Sherrock too. Mike Warburton went fruitless for the night but some of his play deserved better than that.
We had the one bet on Tuesday which was for Kyle McKinstry to cover a 1.5 leg handicap against Fallon Sherrock and he was in brutal form in the match, winning it 5-0 with a 91+ average which got him competitive for the evening. That maintains our 100% record for the week, a run we hope we can extend over the course of play on Wednesday evening and beyond.
Wednesday Line Up
Having gone winless on Tuesday evening it is the turn of Mike Warburton to sit out on Wednesday night. He is replaced by his fellow BDO star Martin Adams, who returns from his own night off. Adams will look to launch a burst of wins that he achieved this time last week but in order to do that he is going to have to get the better of possibly the hardest bunch of the week. That is because the other four players on show are David Evans, Wessel Nijman, Kyle McKinstry and Fallon Sherrock, who all look in tip top form at present.

Outright Betting
This is a group that is very tough to call as all five players are in great form. Whether Fallon Sherrock has the consistency to get three wins on the board and challenge in this company I have my doubts but she can certainly play the role of spoiler. I can see this group coming down to one or two legs either way though and that is rarely a situation I like to bet in especially when I can’t see a great deal of value around. If Martin Adams had played on Tuesday his price might have tempted me in but he didn’t so it doesn’t.
There is one bet I do like the look of over the course of the night though and that comes in the form of the most 180s on the evening where the 5/4 on Wessel Nijman topping the pile looks good to me. You would think his main rival would be David Evans but he moves down to 19s a lot and only hit three 180s in full on Tuesday night and six on Monday evening. To put that into significance Nijman hit 13 alone on Tuesday. Kyle McKinstry only hit a couple and Fallon Sherrock hit seven. It could be that Wolfie, who hit eight on Monday night, is the closest challenger to the Dutchman but Nijman is such a heavy scorer that I’ll back him to top the 180 pile again on Wednesday at 5/4.
Match Betting
I’ll also take the same bet I took on Tuesday night in the match betting as the odds have actually increased on Kyle McKinstry covering a 1.5 leg handicap against Fallon Sherrock in their opening match of the night. I’m not writing Sherrock off completely but she lost this encounter 5-0 on Tuesday evening and that was despite the Northern Irishman missing 10 darts at a double in the five legs played.
While Sherrock is a great player whose finishing can be lethal, McKinstry is such a heavy and powerful scorer that I can’t believe the 25-year-old will keep up with him leg on leg so this for me becomes a case of whether the man from Northern Ireland hits his doubles relatively competently. If he does do that, like he did on Tuesday evening, then he should win this match and should be able to do it by at least a 5-3 scoreline.
