2020 Modus Icons of Darts – Tuesday 28th April Group 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of action in the latest week of the Icons of Darts event takes place on Tuesday, as again five players allow us into their homes via a live stream as they battle it out for more points to keep us entertained during lockdown.

It has to be said that the opening day of the week on Monday brought some pretty ordinary action, so there is a hope that the players on show on Tuesday settle down and deliver a much better standard and a more competitive day of darts.

The Format

Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Monday Recap

There is no getting away from the fact that Monday was a poor day of darts as two players struggled quite badly. I had a feeling that Anastasia Dobromyslova would find it tough given that she is playing with new darts having barely thrown a dart in anger for six weeks but she found it harder than even I could have imagined. Jose Justicia also struggled which left Jarred Cole, Justin Smith and Keelen Kay to pick up three wins each with Cole winning the day courtesy of leg difference.

That was music to our ears as we advised him at 7/2 to win Monday’s play and courtesy of a 5-2 win in his final match against a Justin Smith who was unbeaten to that point. Along the way, Cole thrashed Dobromyslova 5-0 to comfortably cover the handicap in that match which means that we begin the week with a couple of winners and more than 9pts of profit.

Tuesday Line Up

Ritchie Edhouse had the opening day of the week off but he comes back into the fold on Tuesday. He begins his first stint in the daytime event having previously competed in the evening competition. He comes in for Justin Smith who came so close to landing the title on Tuesday. Edhouse will go up against the winner from Monday in Jarred Cole and three players who failed to show off their best game in the form of Jose Justicia, Keelan Kay and Anastasia Dobromyslova who will be determined to be a lot better than she was on Monday.

Outright Betting

Based on what we saw on Monday I have to think Ritchie Edhouse is an extremely likely winner of this group but there are one or two murmurs that Arron Monk might be replacing Anastasia Dobromyslova and with no bookmaker having priced up the matches that were due to involve the Russian at the time of writing there could be something in that, so I’m pretty happy to keep my powder dry in that regard.

The other reason for not committing to backing Edhouse on Tuesday is that he hasn’t played for a few days so he is entitled to be a little rusty and it only takes one poor performance in this thing for it all to go up in smoke. Jarred Cole would once again act as a decent value alternative but he won by the skin of his teeth on Tuesday and a repeat of that might not happen. I’ll save my money for the match betting.

Match Betting

With none of Anastasia’s matches priced up there are only six fixtures to go at when I’m writing this preview and only one of them contains a bet I’m happy to be on. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ritchie Edhouse having a good day and he could well make hay on some handicaps but it is one of the matches that doesn’t involve him which has caught my eye as far as a punt on the group is concerned.

That comes in the form of Jarred Cole beating Jose Justicia. There wasn’t a lot to shout about for the Spaniard on Monday. He won just one of his four matches, against a bang out of form Dobromyslova, and never averaged above 85 in any of his matches. There could be an improvement to come from him but there will need to be because Jarred Cole picked up where he left off a week or so ago. He beat Justicia 5-1 on Monday and averaged some 11.8pts more than his opponent. That is a lot to pull back in a day so I’ll take Cole to come out on top again in the first match of the day for both men.
