2020 PDC Home Tour III – Group 6 Tips and Betting Preview

The PDC Home Tour III continues with another group in the competition on Wednesday as we play out the penultimate day of action for the week, with seven players once again gracing their home oches for match practice and our entertainment heading into another lockdown.

We’ve seen a good standard in the groups we’ve seen so far in the tournament and hopefully we get the same thing on Wednesday where once again there is a standout player looking to make good ground in the overall league table.

The Format

42 players will compete in PDC Home Tour III and they will all compete in three of the 18 groups in the first round where their results will be accumulated on one overall league table where the top seven at the end of the initial 18 days of action will form a Championship Group from which the overall champion will be crowned. All matches are the best of seven legs and the tournament will be broadcast on PDC.tv or the bookmaker streaming sites.

Group 5 Recap

We expected Krzysztof Ratajski to dominate Group 5 on Tuesday and that is exactly how it played out. He won all five of his matches after the group was reduced to six men after Nathan Derry withdrew. Martijn Kleermaker and Ryan Meikle were the two men who ran him the closest with three wins each while Jonathan Worsley picked up two wins. It was a pretty disappointing day for Ron Meulenkamp and Stephen Bunting, both of whom could only win one of their five matches and have plenty of work to do later in the competition.

It wasn’t a disappointing day for us betting wise though because we picked up a win from the only bet that we placed and it was a good price too. Our bet was for Martijn Kleermaker to see off Stephen Bunting at odds against and when he flew into a 3-0 lead it looked like it was going to be an easy day but Bunting came back to force a decider where the Dutchman held onto the advantage of throw to come through and win.

Group 6 Line Up

The Favourites

There is no doubt about who the main man and the class act is in this group. That is Chris Dobey who is teetering on the fringes of the top 16 in the world rankings and should only get better as he keeps going. Dobey has already played a group in Home Tour III and won five out of his six matches so he starts out in a good position it must be said. Former world finalist Andy Hamilton begins his campaign in this group and will look to build on his good recent form.

The Outsiders

I think it is fair to say the other five players are all outsiders in this group. Geert Nentjes showed some good signs in Home Tour I but he hasn’t really offered much anywhere since then. Gary Blades was more competitive in Home Tour II and has three wins to his name from the first group in this competition so he’ll be out for more wins here while Carl Wilkinson, Peter Jacques and Barrie Bates look to be up against it in this company even if there is a more open feel to it outside of Dobey.

Group Betting

We find ourselves in pretty much the same place as we were in ahead of the groups on Monday and Tuesday in that we have a very short favourite, one which is far too short to consider backing in Chris Dobey, although to be fair he has already dominated one group in this tournament so it wouldn’t be completely surprising if he does it again especially as on paper at least this looks to be a weaker group than the one he won last week.

I’ve repeatedly said that we can’t get involved at odds on though so I certainly won’t be backing Dobey. Of the rest there isn’t really anyone that stands out that I’d like to take him on with I have to say. A couple of months ago I might have taken Geert Nentjes but he seems to have gone off the boil somewhat. The rest look to lack consistency so this is for Dobey to lose but I’ll let him win if he is good enough.

Match Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day on Wednesday and it comes towards the middle of it when Geert Nentjes takes on Gary Blades in a match I expect the young Dutchman to come out on top in. I actually think this format suits the younger scoring players as there is less time for them to have to maintain their form and if they hit their doubles there is a good chance they won’t only win but they’ll win big.

Nentjes can certainly score and most importantly of all he has the throw in this match which should be something of an advantage. The last time Blades was in the Home Tour he was averaging in the lower end of the 80s and not even getting that high so he is going to need to show an improvement if he is going to come through here. Nentjes is usually full of confidence and if he hits his doubles to an acceptable level he should win here.
