2020 WDF Remote Darts League 2 – Sunday 7th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The regular season in the second campaign of the Remote Darts League ends on Sunday night and it does so with a tantalising evening of darts action ahead of us, as the line up for the semi-finals on Monday is finally confirmed.

In a quirk of fate the four men on show on Sunday evening are the four players who battled it out on the final evening of the first season, so there can be no hiding from the potential quality that lies in store on what has the makings of being a dramatic night of darts.

The Format

The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.

At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Saturday Recap

We were treated to a great night of darts on Saturday, one where all but one of the scheduled legs were played. In all we saw 19 180s and eight ton plus checkouts as the standard went up a notch or two. It was a good night for Richard Veenstra who secured his semi-final spot with a couple of wins and a draw. John O’Shea gave himself a chance of making the last four by claiming a win and a draw from his three matches. Joe Chaney picked up the same results but they will not be good enough for a semi-final spot. Justin Thompson could only pick up one point on the evening as his campaign ended in disappointment.

We went into the night with just the one bet and we were right to go with it too. It was for more than 2.5 180s in the match between Joe Chaney and John O’Shea. Chaney began the match with a maximum and went on to hit four more to cover the line on his own. O’Shea also added a 180 of his own so that line was never in any danger of not being covered. Hopefully we can find winners like that for the last two evenings.

Preview

What an evening of action we have in store for us here. The four best players from season one will battle it out. It is a very big evening for Jim Williams who needs four points with a big leg difference gain or five points to make the last four again and he takes on the defending champion James Richardson first up in what is a repeat of the semi-final from last season. Paul Hogan then meets Tony O’Shea in what is a repeat of the second semi from last term.

Hogan then meets Williams in a match that could be the one to determine the fate of the Welshman in this campaign. O’Shea goes up against Richardson in game four of the evening with the only thing on the line there potentially being Richardson topping the table. O’Shea will finish off his campaign with a clash against Williams before the final match of the regular season is a repeat of the final of RDL1 as James Richardson faces his friend and rival Paul Hogan.

Betting

This feels like a night to watch and enjoy the action rather than bet on events because things are going to change with every result in terms of the race for the semi-finals. We should get six great matches so the enjoyment should remain throughout the evening but we’ll supplement it with one bet which comes in game three of the night when Paul Hogan meets Jim Williams in what is a huge clash for the latter.

I’m not going to predict the winner although the season so far would suggest that Hogan is difficult to oppose. Instead I will take the 180s in the match where the 3.5 180s look easily attainable. Hogan has been consistent with his 180 hitting all tournament but in his last two outings Williams has been clicking them like he is throwing at a barn door. He has been relentless. Both men play a match before this one so they should get any rust out of their system and I expect more than 3.5 180s in this game as a result.
