2020 WDF Remote Darts League – Friday 24th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We are getting towards the end of the league phase in the Remote Darts League so the five matches on show in the competition on Friday evening all carry significant importance for those chasing the top four spot.

That should equate to another competitive night of darts between 10 men, some of whom have got better as the week has gone on and others who have faded away. There are just two league nights left after this one so there is plenty at stake.

The Format

If you are a fan of the Premier League Darts event that the PDC hold each year this format will be familiar to you as it is very similar to that. The 10 men face each other once over the first nine evenings of the competition with the top four in the league table progressing to finals night in the 10th evening. The winner of the semi-finals and final is crowned the champion. Each match in the league phase is the best of 12 legs and players get two points for a win and one for a draw. The whole event will be shown live on the Remote Darts League channel on YouTube.

Night Six Recap

Once again there were some excellent performances mixed in with some indifferent ones it has to be said. The night began with Paul Hogan doing a bit of a job on Alan Norris as he claimed the second whitewash of the competition, both of which belong to him. We then had a cracking 6-6 draw between Tony O’Shea and Gary Robson before Darryl Fitton got the better of Dean Winstanley 7-2. The two best players in the tournament then enjoyed easy wins to round off the night with James Richardson beating Wes Newton 7-1 and Jim Williams beating John Walton by the same scoreline.

It was the first losing night for us betting wise on Thursday but we was a missed dart at double 16 away from a 10/1 winner as Williams missed that in the only leg Walton won in the match. We were also denied by a draw in the Gary Robson match but we were able to collect on James Richardson covering his handicap so it was only a minimal loss in the end.

Preview

There are a couple of cracking matches on the card over the course of the night on Friday with the pick of them potentially the one closing out the evening as Gary Robson takes on Paul Hogan. The middle match of the evening is also a great looking one as Tony O’Shea pits his wits against the leader of the event James Richardson, who will qualify for finals night if he comes out on top in that battle.

The night begins with the clash to avoid the wooden spoon as the Yorkshire pair of Dean Winstanley and John Walton go at it. Jim Williams will them look to build on a fine performance on Thursday night when he takes on Alan Norris, whose first thought will be to win a leg having suffered the ignominy of a whitewash on Thursday. The other match on the card sees former county teammates Darryl Fitton and Wes Newton going at it for valuable points for the Dazzler.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the night with the first one coming in the form of Dean Winstanley, who I just think is playing better darts than John Walton. Walton is struggling to score and missing doubles in clusters. Winstanley isn’t scoring like he used to but he’s throwing enough good darts to take advantage and he isn’t too bad at the back end of the leg. The longer this tournament has gone on, Winstanley has generally averaged around 10pts more than Walton and that can be significant. As long as the former PDC star hasn’t completely forgotten how to win I expect him to get over the line here.

In the final match of the night Gary Robson feels like a big price to run Paul Hogan close. Hogan has been terrific in this tournament so far but Robson really isn’t far behind him. Robson hit three 180s and a 177 in a really good performance against Tony O’Shea on Thursday night and that scoring can keep him in the mix here. Hogan has hardly missed a thing all week but when you look at all the numbers from the week this is an even looking battle so the odds are well out. With Robson throwing first Hogan has to win by two unanswered breaks of throw to cover a 2.5 leg handicap and I’m not so sure that happens. This has a 6-6 draw potential all over it but the 4/5 on Robson getting to five legs looks the safe way to play this one.
