2020 WDF Remote Darts League – Tuesday 21st April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Remote Darts League will move into its fourth night of action on Tuesday, with all 10 men looking for another two points that can either get them back in the mix for a semi-final spot, or strengthen their credentials for one.

We have to say there was a drop in the standard overall on Monday night as these veteran players adjust to the routine of relentless darts once again but that fatigue will soon go and hopefully we see better action on Tuesday.

The Format

If you are a fan of the Premier League Darts event that the PDC hold each year this format will be familiar to you as it is very similar to that. The 10 men face each other once over the first nine evenings of the competition with the top four in the league table progressing to finals night in the 10th evening. The winner of the semi-finals and final is crowned the champion. Each match in the league phase is the best of 12 legs and players get two points for a win and one for a draw. The whole event will be shown live on the Remote Darts League channel on YouTube.

Night Three Recap

It was the poorest night of the week so far on Monday. Whether that was the way that the fixtures fell or something to do with fatigue or just a poor night at the office for so many at the same time remains to be seen but we’ll be hoping for better on Tuesday. The night began with a very ordinary 6-6 draw between Wes Newton and John Walton before Paul Hogan got the better of Dean Winstanley. The performance of the night came from James Richardson who absolutely cleaned out Gary Robson 7-2 shortly after Darryl Fitton had got the better of Alan Norris. Jim Williams eased to a third successive win to close out the night.

It was a third profitable night in succession for us betting wise although the profits were reduced to a minimum as Darryl Fitton produced the only checkout of note in his match against Alan Norris. James Richardson comfortably secured minimal gains on the night though and we’ll be out to make even more over the course of Tuesday.

Fixtures

Tony O’Shea v Dean Winstanley

John Walton v James Richardson

Paul Hogan v Wes Newton

Darryl Fitton v Jim Williams

Gary Robson v Alan Norris

Preview

The fourth night of action begins with two men who could do with a win battling it out when Tony O’Shea takes on Dean Winstanley, who is the only man without a point so far but who is getting better with each night. The man one place above Winstanley in the table, John Walton, then takes on James Richardson, who will be out to maintain his unbeaten record. Another unbeaten dartist is in action in the third game of the night when Paul Hogan meets Wes Newton.

The table topper Jim Williams will take to the streams in the penultimate match of the evening when he goes up against Darryl Fitton in what looks like being the pick of the fayre on paper at least. It might be that the most watchable match of the night is the finale of the evening as Gary Robson takes on Alan Norris in what is likely to be a feisty clash between two very competitive players.

Betting

I’ll take a couple of favourites to win their matches handsomely. I was considering taking Dean Winstanley in some capacity but he might be another night or two from that so my first bet will be on James Richardson to dominate John Walton. I think most expected Walton to struggle in this and that has been the case. His only point came against Wes Newton on Monday night but that was such a poor match it wasn’t a deserved point. Richardson drew with Paul Hogan on Sunday and had good wins either side of that. What I like about Richardson is his scoring. His first nine dart average is almost 30 higher than that of Walton so after nine darts he’s effectively 90 ahead in the leg. That means one of three things needs to happen just for Walton to stay close here. Either he needs to dramatically up his scoring, Richardson needs to come off his scoring form, or Richardson needs to miss a boat load of doubles. I don’t see any of that happening so even though a 3.5 leg handicap is on the extremities of what I like to take, I’m happy to take Richardson on that line.

I’ll also take Paul Hogan to cover a 2.5 leg handicap against Wes Newton who has been so disappointing it is untrue. I didn’t clock the statistics of the opening night but in his narrow win over Dean Winstanley and his draw with Walton he averaged below 80 on both occasions and looks as ordinary as those numbers suggest. Hogan picked up his first win on Monday night against Winstanley but he has scored consistently throughout the event. He can be guilty of the odd mare on his doubles but he should still have plenty in hand to come through with plenty to spare here. Hogan is generally a good front runner and I expect him to get in front here and stay there.
