The quarter finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup draw to a close on Sunday evening when the remaining two matches are played out on an evening where we will get confirmation of the semi-final line up.
We have four good sides in action in what should be two competitive matches as the likes of USA and Costa Rica look to join Mexico and Qatar who have already booked their spots in the last four of the competition.
Costa Rica vs Canada (00.00)
The opening match of the night sees the seeded side Costa Rica looking to move into the final four when they take on probably the most dangerous side in the competition outside the big three in the form of Canada.
Costa Rica have come through the draw pretty well so far but I’ve sensed a vulnerability which nobody has been able to take advantage of. Canada look to have the tools to do that but we saw them offer a disappointing display when they finally came up against someone half decent in their final group match against USA. I’m a little surprised the Canadians are favourites based on that but to be fair to them they have plenty of firepower in their side so I wouldn’t be surprised if they win here. I think the safer bet though comes in the form of the goal line which is very low for a Canada match at 2 goals. This wasn’t covered in either of the last group matches for these sides but Costa Rica conceded to both minnows in their group as did Canada. There’s enough of a vulnerability about these two sides and quality in their attacks that suggests to me we’ll see at least two goals here and most likely more.

USA vs Jamaica (02.30)
The last of the quarter finals sees the tournament hosts USA looking to take a step closer to the title when they host the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica, who will be quietly confident of causing a major upset after a decent campaign so far.
USA have come through their group on top of it but I don’t think we could suggest they have looked particularly convincing. Theirs is a squad that looks vulnerable and the pace of Jamaica are perfectly capable of exploiting that. The one question mark is on the Jamaica defence which makes me think there could be goals in this match but I think there is a little too much pressure on USA for that to be a certainty. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an upset here but I can’t call it with any great certainty. I’ll take a watching brief on this one instead.
