The last quarter in the draw for the PDC World Darts Championship is certainly not making up the numbers this year with some household names in it and no fewer than four finalists in TV tournaments since the first lockdown.
Gerwyn Price is the highest seed and will be expected to replicate his run to the semi-final of this tournament in last season but there are plenty of big names chomping at the bit to get stuck into him over the three weeks.
Draw
(3) Gerwyn Price v Luke Woodhouse/Jamie Lewis

Preview
One of the hallmarks of the draw in this tournament is how the big seeds have all been dumped in with some strong names and form players and that is very much the case in the red section here. Gerwyn Price is the standout challenger but this is a section which has the Grand Slam champion Jose de Sousa in it as well as Mervyn King who just two weeks ago was making the final of the Players Championship Finals. They are not the only ones to watch out for either. Jamie Lewis is a former semi-finalist in this event while Max Hopp can really turn it on when the need arises.
The green section looks a little more straight forward because there aren’t too many players who are in decent form in it. Nathan Aspinall looks to have a pretty easy time of it because the next two seeds in the green part, Daryl Gurney and Chris Dobey, are really struggling with their game. Vincent van der Voort is the other seed and he isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders either. Scott Waites, Keane Barry and Jeff Smith are among those who could take advantage.

Betting
Gerwyn Price is the favourite to win the quarter but he might find himself in the wrong part of the draw because there is no doubt that the man outside the top 10 in this field that you would want to avoid is Jose de Sousa and they could meet in the fourth round. There is no guarantee Price would come through that and even if he isn’t playing de Sousa he would likely be playing Mervyn King which isn’t much easier these days. I think we’ve got to be looking at the green section for a bet here.
Nathan Aspinall has made the semi-final of this tournament in the last two years so he knows all about getting out of his quarter. There is a slight concern that he has missed a few too many doubles in recent times but the early part of his draw looks very good for him to build up plenty of confidence and he isn’t stupid, he’ll know his doubles have been an issue and I expect him to have worked hard on those in the lead up to the event. When you look at the draw it might be that Scott Waites in the second round is his hardest challenge up to the quarter final and it could be that he is playing someone ranked lower than him in the last eight if anything does happen to Price. Even if it doesn’t, Aspinall has a great record against the Welshman so the 9/2 on Aspinall looks to be the bet here.
