There are two match days left in the group phase of the Royal London One Day Cup and the first of those comes along on Tuesday when five fixtures take place across both the groups on a day where so much is possibly at stake.
As has been the case throughout the competition, The Hundred is getting the televised interest on Tuesday which means we are reduced to the county streams to watch these games but they are available to all which is a positive.
Group A
Glamorgan are the runaway leaders in Group A but they are not in action again until Thursday so Somerset have the chance to move level on points with them and all but secure their path into the knockout stages when they take on a Leicestershire side whose campaign never caught fire. Two teams who are fighting hard to be around at the weekend are Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire and they meet in a pretty big clash for both at Trent Bridge. The other game in the group comes from The Oval where Surrey host Warwickshire with both sides needing to win to avoid being knocked out.
Group B
There are only two matches in the other group on Tuesday but it is no less of a big day. In fact it could be the day where the semi-finalist from this section is decided. That could happen if Durham beat Worcestershire at New Road and the other result goes their way. Worcestershire have to win and hope results go their way on Thursday if they are to make it through. Essex have the chance to move to the edge of making it through to the knockout stages when they entertain Sussex at Chelmsford. Should Worcestershire win the other game Essex will finish the day on top of the table if they win.

I’ll go with a couple of away sides in the must win matches on Tuesday. The first of those is Northamptonshire who look to be getting Nottinghamshire at the right time. I say that because Nottinghamshire have just been rolled for 73, admittedly against a tasty Glamorgan side but for 73 nevertheless. They now take on a Northamptonshire side who will be buoyant from their win over Somerset to keep their hopes alive in this competition. I don’t think Nottinghamshire have been helped by the call up to The Hundred of Luke Fletcher halfway through this competition and with Haseeb Hameed with the England squad this Nottinghamshire outfit suddenly looks very light. In contrast to the Northants have Luke Proctor back to balance their side better and they look overpriced to me to see off a batting side that can’t be carrying much confidence.
The other side I like on Tuesday is Warwickshire to win at Surrey. Surrey have done well to be in this position but a couple of washouts had boosted their point tally so just how justified it is I’m not sure. They flew out of the blocks but have hit the buffers since the rain started to get involved and the loss to Leicestershire at the weekend highlights their inconsistencies. That isn’t a criticism because it is down to the insane number of players who are either away at The Hundred, with England or injured. Warwickshire haven’t avoided any of those three categories either but they do have two key players back from injury here in Tim Bresnan and Craig Miles, which will really help their bowling attack at both ends of the innings. Bresnan will also bolster the batting a little bit and I think the Bears are overpriced at odds against.
