We are finally into the knockout stage of the WGC Dell Match Play with the last 16 and the quarter finals taking place on a tasty looking day of action over the course of the morning and afternoon in Austin on Saturday.
The group stage sometimes accounts for a number of the star players from the tournament but that hasn’t been the case as much this year with half of the remaining players coming from the top seed bracket in their group.
Unfortunately time restrictions will deny is the chance to preview the quarter finals but we do still have an outright bet standing so hopefully he comes through in the morning play and sets up the place money and gives us some interest in the quarter finals.
Saturday’s last 16 matches are as follows:
Scottie Scheffler vs Billy Horschel
Seamus Power vs Tyrrell Hatton
Dustin Johnson vs Richard Bland
Jon Rahm vs Brooks Koepka
Kevin Kisner vs Adam Scott
Will Zalatoris vs Kevin Na
Takumi Kanaya vs Corey Conners
Collin Morikawa vs Abraham Ancer

Saturday Preview
All 16 players are just four wins from glory and this last 16 session of play offers up some great matches and potential storylines. We have two of the best players in the world going at it as Jon Rahm takes on Brooks Koepka in a heavyweight showdown while the rank underdog in the field Richard Bland is one win away from securing a debut in The Masters. That win would need to come against Dustin Johnson in a true David vs Goliath match. We also have a repeat of the final from 2021 when Scottie Scheffler takes on Billy Horschel while Collin Morikawa and Abraham Ancer could beat each other to death with a ball striking clinic. On sifting through the card there is one bet I like.
Scottie Scheffler vs Billy Horschel
Match tees off at 12.35 GMT
The match I like for a bet on Saturday morning comes in the repeat of the 2021 final as Scottie Scheffler takes on Billy Horschel in what could be the sleeper match to steal the spotlight throughout the course of the session.
Horschel downed Scheffler in that final here last year but was still snubbed for the Ryder Cup while the man he beat was given a wildcard into that event so if the defending champion needed any extra motivation for this match that will give him it. The fact is he needs to raise his game if he is going to win this match because there is a world of difference between the two in the relevant strokes gained categories this week and as a result I expect Scheffler, who has won in Phoenix and Bay Hill in the last six weeks, to extract revenge here. Scheffler is a local lad who knows every inch of this course and is playing brilliant golf. He is 17 under for the 54 holes he has played this week and is gaining shots on the field in all the strokes gained categories – the only man left in who is doing that. He has the length to take advantage of this course and of those remaining in the draw only Dustin Johnson is gaining more ground on the greens. I think Scheffler takes a lot of beating here.
