6 Red World Championship Snooker 2023 Qualifying – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of action at the 6 Red World Championship qualifying tournament on Sunday is the middle day of the three in this competition and will see the first round of it coming to a close and the second round getting underway.

As with Saturday, we have three sessions of play up in Barnsley, each one with two sets of matches and we speed towards a conclusion of this qualifying competition. It is Sunday where the bigger names come out to play.

Morning Session

We have five matches in the first part of the morning session after a number of withdrawals and things like that. Ryan Day is the biggest name on show when he takes on Fraser Patrick in a good looking match. Marco Fu will also look to make progress when he faces the Scottish Open finalist Joe O’Connor in another tasty clash. The other three matches see Zak Surety facing Craig Steadman, Mitchell Mann playing Himanshu Jain and Michael Judge taking on Sean O’Sullivan.

Six matches form the second part of the morning session. Fan Zhengyi is the most recognisable player on show. The former European Masters winner meets Saqib Nasir for a place in the next round. Ryan Thomerson takes on Rodney Goggins in another of the matches while Jamie Wilson gets a chance to shine against Wu Yize, Andy Lee takes on Victor Sarkis, Oliver Lines goes up against Muhammad Asif and Mohamed Ibrahim meets Aaron Hill.

Afternoon Session

The second round of the qualifying competition begins in the afternoon session with the Welsh Open champion from last season Joe Perry being the leading name on show. He meets Lukas Kleckers while the other eye catching match sees Louis Heathcote going up against Anthony Hamilton. The other matches see Lei Peifan and Zhang Anda meeting while Umut Dikme takes on Jamie Clarke. Tian Pengfei plays Liam Highfield with Mark Joyce meeting Michael White. Xiao Guodong faces Asjad Iqbal in the other game.

There are plenty of big names on show in the second part of the afternoon with the Scottish Open winner Gary Wilson probably the pick of them. He meets Oliver Brown while the most successful female in history is on show when Reanne Evans takes on the Indian Open champion Matthew Selt. Elsewhere, Cao Yupeng faces Jamie O’Neill, Ashley Hugill takes on Chris Wakelin, Barry Pinches meets Peng Yisong, Jamie Jones plays Fergal Quinn, Jordan Brown plays Ben Mertens and Mark Davis faces Ian Martin.

Evening Session

Plenty more big names are out to play in the evening session with the former world champion Graeme Dott beginning his quest to add the six red title to his 15 red one. He faces Ben Fortey while the other big player on show, Ali Carter, meets Rod Lawler. In the other matches, Elliot Slessor plays John Fearick, Ben Woollaston plays Ian Burns, Jackson Page takes on Scott Donaldson, Peter Lines goes up against Tom Ford, John Astley takes on Pang Junxu and Si Jiahui meets Zhou Yuelong.

We don’t know the identity of the second part of the evening yet because a number of players who come through in the morning will return but we do know that Jimmy Robertson will be waiting for one of Michael Judge or Sean O’Sullivan, Mark King will take on Mitchell Mann or Himanshu Jain, Dean Young will take on the winner of Ryan Day and Fraser Patrick, Joe O’Connor or Marco Fu will play Zak Surety or Craig Steadman, Jak Jones will go up against Ryan Thomerson or Rodney Goggins. Jamie Wilson or Wu Yize will face Fan Zhengyi or Saqib Nasir and Andy Lee or Victor Sarkis will take on Oliver Lines or Muhammad Asif.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day and it comes in the form of Peng Yisong to beat Barry Pinches. Pinches has posted on social media how he is suffering with a cold and with all of the illnesses doing the rounds I would be keen to avoid him even though he beat Andrew Pagett on the opening day. Pinches doesn’t win many matches these days anyway and I sense he is going to need to improve to beat the Chinese player.

It took Peng a while to get up to speed with the circuit this season but he took care of Mark Selby in the qualifying for the German Masters and beat Lyu Haotian here on Saturday which is a decent result with the way he has played this season. He made a maximum break of 75 in that match too which shows that he can score in this format. I’m not sure about the scoring of Pinches and so I would rather be on the healthier scorer which is the Chinese player.
