NFL 2022 – Week 18 Sunday Early Games Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the NFL 2022 regular season on Sunday with the majority of the matches being played out on the two early slots on a day where all but one playoff spot will be determined and most of the seedings will be finalised.

We will find out who gets the number one seed in the NFC and who gets the final wildcard spot in the AFC across these matches, two of which are on TV in the UK for us as always while the Red Zone coverage will keep us up to date with everything too.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

It is divisional clashes all the way on the final day of the regular season and the televised match in the UK will be quite an emotional affair as the Buffalo Bills take to the field for the first time since the cardiac arrest of Damar Hamlin on Monday night. The Bills face the New England Patriots at Orchard Park with the Patriots knowing they will claim the final AFC wildcard spot with a win. Should they lose they open the door up to two other teams.

They are the Miami Dolphins who finish their regular season at home to the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers who will be at home to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The other big match in this first slot would have been the one between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens but that doesn’t carry as much importance after the rule changes the league had to implement this week. The other matches sees the NFC South champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers traveling to the Atlanta Falcons while the Chicago Bears end their season at home to the Minnesota Vikings who will be looking for a high seed in the NFC. The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans end their season against each other as do the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers.

4.25pm Kick Offs (9.25pm UK time)

It is pretty much all about the number one seed in the NFC in the later set of matches on Sunday. The Philadelphia Eagles know that they are in control of their own destiny. If they win at home to the New York Giants then they will win the NFC East title and the NFC will go through Philadelphia. The Giants have already locked in the number six seed so while they have nothing to lose, you wouldn’t think they would risk many starters.

If the Eagles do slip up then the San Francisco 49ers can claim the number one seed if they can see off the Arizona Cardinals on home soil. If the Eagles and the 49ers both lose then the Dallas Cowboys can steal the NFC East title and the number one seed with a win at the Washington Commanders. The other match of note here sees the Los Angeles Chargers looking to claim the number five seed in the AFC and travel to Jacksonville in the playoffs next week. They need to win away to the Denver Broncos for that to happen. Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams conclude their seasons against each other.

Betting

I try not to get involved with emotion when betting but it is impossible to ignore the emotional side of things when the Buffalo Bills take on the New England Patriots. You only have to see the outpouring of love and support for Damar Hamlin to see how hard the events of Monday night have hit the NFL community. You need to multiply that by a huge amount for what it will have done for Buffalo who although technically not playing for much here, will be all out to get a win for their teammate.

Buffalo go into this match off the back of six wins in succession whereas the Patriots have lost four of their last six and know they have to win this else their season will be done. Those two wins were against the Arizona Cardinals and a Miami Dolphins team last week who have slumped towards the end of the season. There is clearly issues between quarterback and coaches and the offense just looks impotent to me and that isn’t good when facing a rampant offense such as the Bills. Buffalo will have been keen to end the season of the Patriots before the events of Monday night. They’ll be hugely more motivated here and given that they won by 14 in New England just over a month ago I’ll back them to cover 7.5pts on home soil.

Tips

Back Buffalo Bills (-7.5) to beat New England Patriots for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
