The second T20 international of three between Pakistan and the West Indies comes just 24hrs after the opening game and that was a match which Pakistan dominated from start to finish and if they can repeat that here they know they will win the series with a match to spare.
West Indies have plenty of issues as ever but they’re a proud bunch and they will want to rebound from the disappointment of Friday and show just why they are the world champions in this format.
Pakistan
If you could script a performance in this format then Pakistan did a pretty good job of offering up the sort of thing you would want on Friday. They used spin to great effect to shoot out the West Indies top order and then their pace men came in and kept the squeeze on in a very solid bowling effort.
It will be interesting to see how Pakistan go about their business should they have to bat first. We’ve seen them produce two wonderful wins batting second but we’ve seen historically that they don’t really have a cricketing brain when it comes to setting a score so how they manage that will be interesting.
West Indies
This tour had the makings of a bit of a shambles anyway for the West Indies when the coach was sacked not long before it began and they looked like a side lacking leadership in the opening match on Friday. To be fair to Dwayne Bravo he put his experience to good use to try and get his side back into the match but from 48-8 they were never winning.
That is now two really bad defeats on the trot for the West Indies in this format and while we all know what they can do when they get off to a good start, as we saw in the first T20 against India earlier in the season, they need more strings to their bow than just that.
Team News
It would be a major surprise if Pakistan change a side that was so thoroughly dominant in the first game but when you leave Mohammad Amir out there is always a chance that a change could be made.
It would be a surprise on the other hand if the West Indies don’t make changes. That said they don’t have too many options to shake up their failings with the batsmen so maybe they will tell the same side to put it right.
Betting
It is never easy for sides to back up performances the next day as I regularly mention although it is slightly easier when it is the same two teams meeting each other. West Indies were so bad on Friday that I just wonder how much of it they can put right in less than 24hrs. They certainly won’t have had the chance to practice anything so it would be a tactical thing but with no recognised main coach who will offer them that option?
With that in mind it is hard to go against Pakistan in this match. I do still have reservations about them when they bat first but at least they are showing plenty of intent with the bat and that intent coupled with an excellent bowling attack can lead Pakistan to another T20 win here.
