New Zealand vs Australia – 3rd ODI Betting Preview

After the second ODI was washed out in Napier earlier in the week the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy will be decided in a third and final match of the series in Hamilton on Sunday. New Zealand head into the match leading the series 1-0 and need to avoid defeat to regain the trophy. An Australia win will see them retain it.

New Zealand

The washout in Napier probably did no good for New Zealand who will be desperate for their batting line up to get as much time in the middle in this format as is possible ahead of the Champions Trophy which comes up later in the summer. That said the chance to win a series against Australia is never a bad thing and they are in control of their destiny now.

If New Zealand are to win both this series and the Champions Trophy to come then you would imagine their bowling attack will need to keep delivering the goods. They bowled brilliantly in Auckland to start off the series and a repeat of that would give them every chance here.

Australia

It is win or bust for Australia here so we should expect them to be at their best here. If that is to happen then their batting line up will need to stand up and be counted. They saw an incredible innings from Marcus Stoinis in the first match of the series which nearly got them home. The rest need to follow suit.

If there is an area of the game where Australia will be satisfied heading into this match it will be with the ball. Their bowling has been their strength for a good while now and they will need them to stand up if they are to level up the series and retain the trophy.

Team News

Martin Guptill has been ruled out of this match like he was the previous one. Dean Brownlie will open the batting. Ish Sodhi has been added to the squad and could well start.

Australia were thinking about bringing Adam Zampa into the side for the Napier ODI although whether they would have done that once the rain came remains to be seen. He is in with a chance of playing here.

Seddon Park

There have been 28 previous ODIs on this ground and New Zealand have featured in 23 of them. They have 15 wins from those matches with just six defeats and a couple of no results. Australia have a losing record here with two wins and three defeats.

This is yet another small ground where the boundaries are accessible and the wicket is usually good for batting so just like the opening match of the series we should get a high scoring game which should be laden in boundaries.

Betting

With this being another tiny ground I wouldn’t want to bet on the match before I know who is chasing because defending this ground isn’t easy even though New Zealand defended on an equally small if not smaller ground the other day.

The one bet I do like though is for Australia to hit the most sixes. I’ve mentioned throughout the last couple of months how this New Zealand batting line up is struggling and they’ve lost a six hitter in Martin Guptill and there aren’t that many others in the side.

That is the complete opposite for Australia who have six hitters all the way down their line up as we saw in the first match of the series. Australia’s bowling attack is hard to get after too whereas New Zealand have the odd weak link that you can get after. That should all equate to Australia leading the sixes total.
