Skybet League 2 – Saturday 8th April Matches Betting Preview

We’re into the home straight in Skybet League 2 now and after Saturday’s fixtures just five matches will remain for those hunting down achievements to reach them. We could have our first promotion confirmed on Saturday while other events will move nearer a conclusion on a busy day where all 24 teams are in action.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Crewe Alexandra

Barnet v Luton Town

Blackpool v Grimsby Town

Cambridge United v Leyton Orient

Carlisle United v Notts County

Colchester United v Stevenage

Crawley Town v Plymouth Argyle

Doncaster Rovers v Mansfield Town

Exeter City v Newport County

Morecambe v Hartlepool United

Portsmouth v Yeovil Town

Wycombe Wanderers v Cheltenham Town

Big Matches

Doncaster will be promoted if they match Stevenage’s result so the best way of guaranteeing that is to beat Mansfield and celebrate in style at the Keepmoat. Plymouth aren’t far off their own promotion and will be looking to go closer to it when they head to Crawley while Portsmouth will be expected to close in on automatic promotion when they host Yeovil. Stevenage will aim to keep the pressure on by getting a win at Colchester.

Best of the Rest

Luton head to Barnet looking for a rare back to back set of league wins while Exeter have the chance to build on their huge late win last week when they host relegation threatened Newport County. The Leyton Orient saga is showing no signs of ending and they look ripe for a hiding at Cambridge. Hartlepool will go in search of a much needed win at Morecambe.

Betting

I like three in the division this week and all three of them are good sides who I expect to finish the season well. Doncaster can get promoted on Saturday and they will want to do that in style when they host Mansfield. Plymouth are the only team to have left Doncaster with all three points this season which emphasises the strength of their home form. Mansfield won their last away game at Morecambe but had gone four without a win prior to that. I don’t see Mansfield getting anything there.

Plymouth will be looking to keep up their title charge while moving closer to promotion. Usually Crawley would be a tough place to go but at the minute they aren’t getting the results at home if you excuse a recent win over Leyton Orient, which I do. Crawley lost to Newport last week which suggests they might be done for the season. Plymouth certainly aren’t and with draw cover they look a great bet given their much better performances on the road than at Home Park.

I watched Blackpool last week where they were unlucky to lose at Luton. The game looked to be heading to a draw prior to a goalkeeper mistake which handed Luton a win. Before that though Blackpool forced Luton’s keeper into a couple of superb saves so although they lost I don’t think it was the start of a downturn in form. I fancy it will be the opposite actually and spark them fully into life. Grimsby’s only win in their last five road games was at Leyton Orient which barely counts and having not won in four since that win they look there for the taking for Blackpool.
