We are down to the final day of the World Championship and at the end of Monday another snooker world champion will be crowned. John Higgins will either win a fifth world title or Mark Selby will cement his place as one of the greatest in the game by lifting the trophy for a third time. The winner will also be a cool £375,000 richer which isn’t too shabby.
Day 16 Recap
We’ve had two sessions of this final and each man has won a session each. John Higgins made the better start to the final and opened up an authoritative 6-2 advantage at the end of the first session but Mark Selby won the last three in the evening to take the second session 5-4 and reduce his overnight arrears to 10-7.

Betting
Amazingly despite John Higgins holding a three frame advantage bookmakers are struggling to split the two finalists heading into the opening day. Mark Selby has a reputation for being an excellent chaser and having won the final three frames on Sunday he’ll be feeling better about things but for me he is a clear outsider to win the title now.
Higgins is in a great position here. Even if he loses the afternoon session on Monday 5-3 he would still hold a one frame lead heading into the evening but if he shares or wins the session he could be away and gone. I think it is safe to say we can expect Selby to improve from his Sunday effort but Higgins can see the finish line now and I think he’ll be in top form here too. I just don’t think Selby can give the Scot a three frame start over 18 frames and peg him back fully.
At 10/11 Higgins looks a great price to join the very top level elite stars of the game by lifting a fifth world title but I don’t expect Selby to go down without a fight so I’ll take a couple of close correct scores in Higgins’ favour on what promises to be an epic day to conclude the season.
