It might be a Bank Holiday but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have a Monday Night Football in the Premier League. This week’s match comes from Vicarage Road as Watford host Liverpool in a match which is insurmountably bigger for the away side than it is for the hosts.
Watford are going nowhere now this season and will secure another mid-table finish regardless of what happens here but having seen Man City and Man Utd drop points on Sunday, Liverpool have a huge chance to take a giant leap towards a return to Champions League football.
Watford
The Hornets haven’t always convinced this season and have been poor in recent weeks but they can play with a bit of freedom here and although they have been accused of being on the beach if anything is going to get them off their mental holidays it is a Monday night match on TV you would think.
Watford go into the match having won their last three home matches without conceding and while they have only beaten Sunderland, Swansea and West Brom they should be given credit for that. That recent record suggests that Liverpool shouldn’t be taken them lightly that much is for sure.
Liverpool
If Liverpool fade away this season and don’t make it into the top four and into the Champions League next season they will wonder how on earth they haven’t done it because they have had so many chances to wrap it up and haven’t taken them it is untrue.
The most recent of those chances came at home to Crystal Palace last weekend but their former striker Christian Benteke came back to haunt them that day and they were unable to take advantage. They have now been presented with another chance and it will be interesting to see what they do with this one.
Team News
Defender Craig Cathcart has a knee issue and is said to be a doubt for this match while Watford will definitely be without Younes Kaboul, Mauro Zarate and Roberto Pereyra who are all injured.
Liverpool could have Adam Lallana involved after he has returned to training following a thigh injury picked up on international duty last month. Daniel Sturridge is also said to be fit for a return too.

Betting
We have that classic May pricing for this match where the side with the obvious motivation are incredibly short and the team playing for little are overpriced as a result. These sort of matches happen often at this stage of the campaign but we should always remember that must win doesn’t equal will win.
I can’t possibly back Liverpool at the prices being slated up for this match and there’s no way on this earth I can be taking a handicap. They mess things up far too much for that. In saying that having successfully opposed Watford at Hull last week I’m in no real rush to back them either so I’m going to leave this alone.
Those who want a bet could do a lot worse than get on both teams to score as Liverpool rarely keep clean sheets on the road but should Watford score the kitchen sink would have to be launched to get the Reds back into it. I’m happy to leave this one alone though.
