2017 Royal London One Day Cup – Friday 12th May Matches Betting Preview

We are heading towards the conclusion of the Royal London One Day Cup group stages at a rate of knots and we take another step closer to that with another busy day of action in the competition on Friday.

Unfortunately despite no England international cricket on there isn’t one of the seven matches taking place on Friday on the television so we are back to other means to follow the matches.

North Group

Three matches take place in the North Group on Friday. There is a huge clash between Lancashire and Derbyshire at Blackpool where the loser will probably exit the competition but the winner will give themselves every chance of making it through. Worcestershire will look to enhance their qualifying chances when they host already out Warwickshire while in the later game Leicestershire face the other already eliminated side Northamptonshire.

South Group

Four matches take place in this group. Leaders Somerset will head to Bristol to face local rivals Gloucestershire while Essex host Middlesex in a big game for the home side. Hampshire could go top if results go their way if they beat Glamorgan at the Ageas Bowl and in the other match Surrey face Kent in a must win match.

Betting

I’m going with one in each group on Friday. I’ll start in the South Group where I quite like Essex to see off Middlesex. Middlesex have only made more than 260 once since the opening day of the competition and you don’t win matches with medium scores these days. We saw how good the wicket at Chelmsford is playing on Wednesday so they are going to have to score.

Essex have a solid batting line up which is expected to have Ravi Bopara back in the ranks and having won four of their five matches to date in the competition there is no arguing about their form. The options Essex have with the bat and the ball make them dangerous and I think they’ll be too good for a run shy Middlesex.

Leicestershire have been competitive against the lesser sides in the North Group with wins over Warwickshire and Lancashire this season and with Clint McKay and Colin Ackermann back in their squad I think they are a fair price to see off Northamptonshire. Northants just aren’t bowling well in the second half of the innings which doesn’t bode well with Leicestershire’s batting depth. Northants are out already whereas Leicestershire can still make it through. Those chances can be extended with a win here.
