The second round of the Aegon Championships comes to a close on Thursday and by the end of the day’s play at the Queens Club in London we will know the quarter final line up. This has been a tournament for the underdog so far but there will be a few favourites hoping to come through here.
Day 3 Recap
It wasn’t our best day on Wednesday with just one of the three bets we put up winning. It all started well with Donald Young seeing off Viktor Troicki but unfortunately while Grigor Dimitrov won he couldn’t do it in straight sets and Gilles Muller was too good in the first set for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
There was only one real shock on Wednesday and that was probably only a minor one with Muller beating Tsonga. Elsewhere there were wins for Young, Dimitrov and Tomas Berdych who came through a cracking three set match with Denis Shapovalov.

Marin Cilic vs Stefan Kozlov
One of the favourites for the tournament after the carnage of the first round was Marin Cilic and he takes on the American youngster Stefan Kozlov in what is their first career meeting to begin the day on Thursday.
Cilic is a big favourite to win this match and it is hard to disagree with that but we don’t really know how the American will settle into what is one of his biggest senior matches so given that I’m on Cilic outright I’ll sit and hopefully watch him cruise through.
Jordan Thompson vs Sam Querrey
This was meant to be Andy Murray against the former champion Sam Querrey but Jordan Thompson had other ideas when he dumped the Scot out of the tournament on Tuesday. This will be the first meeting between these two as well.
This is another match that is hard to bet on because we don’t know how well or badly Thompson will back up his big win and we don’t know whether Querrey can do anything against the serve either. I’ll keep my powder dry here too.
Daniil Medvedev vs Thanasi Kokkinakis
These two meet for the second week in a row after Daniil Medvedev beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in Holland last week. That was their only career meeting so far.
Both men had good wins in the first round. Medvedev saw off Nicolas Mahut while Kokkinakis stole the show when he dumped Milos Raonic out of the tournament. While that was a good win Raonic will still be wondering how he never converted any of nine break points. I give the Australian credit but I fancy he was flattered by his win.
I don’t see that with the Russian though and given that he beat Kokkinakis just last week I will go with him to repeat the dose here. Medvedev won in straight sets last week and I expect something similar here.
Jeremy Chardy vs Feliciano Lopez
The last match of the second round sees Jeremy Chardy taking on Feliciano Lopez with Tomas Berdych awaiting the winner in the quarter final on Friday. Both men had good first round wins so should be confident.
Chardy took care of British wildcard Liam Broady while Lopez saw off Stan Wawrinka in a match I always fancied him to do well in. I like Lopez in this one too but the price reflects both his likelihood of winning and the potential for tiebreaks to be the determining factor so I’m happy to sit this one out with no real value anywhere.
