The Big Bash League returns on Wednesday after a day off for the ODI on Tuesday. We’ve really reached the business end of the season now with plenty to play for in Adelaide.
The Adelaide Strikers go into the match already assured of a spot in the semi-finals but one win in either of their last two matches would make sure they host the game so they have plenty to play for.
The Hobart Hurricanes still have an outside chance of going through. They need to win this and win it big and then hope that the Sydney Thunder lose their final match against the Sixers and that the Renegades lose to Adelaide in the last group match to have a chance of progressing.
Adelaide haven’t been helped by injuries and international call ups for this match. They knew they were going to be without Kane Richardson are he is off with Australia now but they will also have to do without Mahela Jayawardena who has picked up an injury. Billy Stanlake is also injured. Hamish Kingston and Jono Dean could be their replacements.
Hobart will be without George Bailey once again but they weren’t too disadvantaged by that. It was with the ball they failed against the Scorchers although that was only by the narrowest of margins. They should take plenty from how they went with the bat in Bailey’s absence.
There are no shortage of things to play for in this match but I’m of the belief that Hobart have the stronger looking side here. Adelaide have ridden the form of Travis Head a lot this season but he can’t always do it on his own and Adil Rashid aside their bowling unit looks very attackable.
Hobart haven’t always been brilliant this season but they have some clever cricketers in their ranks in the form of Dan Christian, Darren Sammy, Kumar Sangakkara and they can all step up on the big occasion and keep the Hurricanes’ feint hopes of staying alive intact.
Another bet I like is for there to be sixes in the game. Whoever replaces Jayawardena for the Strikers will be a much bigger hitter than the Sri Lankan and the Strikers don’t lack for hitters.
The Hurricanes don’t either. Any side who can take the Scorchers for seven sixes can go big and with the square boundaries here very attackable I’m expecting another dozen sixes to go with the trend of this tournament which has been big hitting.
