2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Forest Green Rovers vs Swindon Town Betting Preview

The League 2 weekend kicks off on Friday night this week as we have a televised match between Forest Green Rovers and Swindon Town in something of a western derby. It is not very often in the regular season that we get to take in a match in this division on TV but it gets the full betting treatment in terms of markets available.

Forest Green Rovers

It has been a tough baptism into the Football League for the newly promoted Rovers. They have won just one of their first seven matches and with five points overall they need to start winning matches as soon as they can. They have not kept a clean sheet in their league games yet which is clearly the issue that Mark Cooper needs to solve.

The positive for the newbies is that they have managed to bag 10 goals in their matches so far although their critics will be quick to point out that four of them came in one match. It hasn’t been the easiest start for Forest Green with them already having faced Exeter, Mansfield, Lincoln and Wycombe and now they have another test.

Swindon Town

Swindon have been a little hit and miss for their liking but there has been a large turnover of players from the side which got relegated last season so I guess that inconsistency is understandable. You would have to say when they are good they are very good but the opposite also applies. When they are bad they are terrible.

A win will move Swindon up to fourth ahead of the rest of the matches this weekend and that would represent a decent start to the season given the upheaval at the club. A win here would also give them a third win in four which would suggest they are starting to get to grips with the level and the task in hand.

Team News

Rovers boss Mark Cooper could keep with the same side which picked up a draw with Port Vale last weekend although Forest Green could be forced to be without Matty Monthe.

Donal McDermott is back for David Flitcroft’s men having completed a three-match ban but Swindon will be without Dion Conroy who is now out with a significant injury. James Dunne is expected to keep his place.

Betting

I get why Swindon are the favourites for this match but they are still a little too inconsistent for my liking to be taking them without a whole heap of draw cover. That sends me to the goal market for a bet on the match.

Both these sides have been involved in some high scoring matches this season. Four of Swindon’s last five have had more than 2.5 goals in them while five of Forest Green’s games so far this campaign have also gone over that line. Swindon look to attack and are a rare side who play two up front on the road. I’m expecting an open game with a few goals here.
