The final match of another busy Sunday in the NFL is a repeat of the Super Bowl from last season when the New England Patriots host the Atlanta Falcons in the Sunday Night Football.
The match is set up nicely not least because of what happened in that remarkable season finale but also because neither side have hit the heights of last season just yet. One thing is for sure we are in for quite some game.
New England Patriots
The Patriots ran out winners in one of the most remarkable sporting turnarounds ever seen. Nobody gave them a prayer heading towards half time in that Super Bowl but what happened afterwards defied belief and cost many plenty of money, not least Genie Bouchard who had that embarrassing twitter date as a result of the comeback!
That New England side was a much better one that the current offering. Julian Edelman has been a big loss to the offense and they have many more issues on the defensive side of the ball than they have had for a while. In saying all that they are still 4-2 for the season although they should really be 3-3 having escaped with a win over the Jets last week.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons went to the Super Bowl off the back of one of the most powerful offenses we had seen for a number of years. As is often the case, especially when there is a coaching change, they have not been able to sustain the dominance on that side of the ball and the task ahead is to get back to somewhere near that form.
If there has been a positive for Atlanta it is that they have improved slightly on defence and if they can get their big players on offense to fire then their division is very much there for the taking enough with them heading into the match with a 3-2 record. If they can find a win here they will be very much in control of their own destiny.

Betting
You would think this would be a high scoring match and I certainly don’t see it being otherwise but judging by the total points lines that are around the bookmakers do not see it differently either. They are all fairly high and while I wouldn’t be surprised if it is covered too much needs to go right for my liking. I certainly wouldn’t want to be risking the under though so I’ll head to the player markets for a bet on the game.
When you think that Alex Smith has passed for 368 yards on this New England defence, Cam Newton 316, Jameis Winston 334 and Josh McCown 354 you have to think that Matt Ryan will be capable of covering 293.5 yards. He always has Julio Jones on his side which is usually 100-150 yards per game and Mohamed Sanu is back in action for this game too. This New England secondary has been shredded all season and it should be vulnerable once again here.
